Global climate change is profoundly reshaping the path toward sustainable development, with impacts unfolding at unprecedented speed, intensity, and scale. Proactively adapting to climate change and establishing new paradigms for sustainable urban development have become strategic imperatives for fostering harmony between humanity and nature and achieving a green, low-carbon transition. To further advance theoretical innovation in climate adaptation governance and sustainable urban futures, the International Alliance for Low-Carbon Cities, Communities, and Buildings (IAA-LCCNB) will host the International Symposium on Climate Adaptation and Low-Carbon Cities in Xi’an, China, in November 2025.
This symposium will focus on key topics such as building energy efficiency and climate-adaptive design technologies, theories and methods of urban resilience planning, sustainable urban renewal, and collaborative governance mechanisms. It will bring together leading scholars, government decision-makers, industry practitioners, and early-career researchers from fields including architecture, spatial and urban planning, climate science, and public governance. Through multi-scale and interdisciplinary academic exchange, the conference aims to explore systemic, synergistic, and innovative pathways to sustainable development, driving a paradigm shift in climate governance from passive response to proactive adaptation.
