The Polish Academy of Sciences – Scientific Centre in Vienna, in collaboration with the Faculty of History at the University of Warsaw and the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, cordially invites researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit abstracts for the conference Year Zero: The Experience of 1945 – Endings, Transformations, and Renewal. This event is scheduled to take place on September 11-12, 2025, at the Polish Academy of Sciences – Scientific Centre in Vienna, Austria.

This conference aims to examine the significant social, historical, and cultural transformations that emerged from the conclusion of World War II, with a focus on the varied experiences across Europe. Contributions may explore themes such as political and social reintegration, cultural reflections from the post-war era, and the evolving processes of justice and memory.

We welcome interdisciplinary proposals from historians, cultural and literary scholars, social scientists, and other relevant fields. Abstracts (up to 1,000 words) and a brief biography of the author(s) should be submitted no later than April 30, 2025. Notifications of acceptance will be issued by May 19, 2025, and participants must confirm their attendance by May 31, 2025.
