Satellite technology is changing the world at an incredible pace. Technologies accessible to the general public are increasingly being used to produce and process satellite-sourced data. Whether it is the latest Earth observation images on Google maps, wireless internet in the desert or real-time tracking of public transport, satellite applications enrich our personal and professional lives on a daily basis.
The purpose of this competition is to uncover the next big thing, or things, in satellite applications. The opportunity is broad in its scope; it is looking for effective means of utilising satellites, whether the solution is a product or platform, hardware or software, or even an idea as fundamental as an algorithm. We are looking for innovative and novel new applications of state-of-the-art technologies that both enable new satellite capabilities on orbit and the respective services on the ground. Your abstract and poster could address some of the following questions: - Has your work made a contribution to Satellite Applications? - What technologies are you using? - What benefits does the technology bring to customers, staff and society? - Are they brand-new, or are you using existing technology to new advantage? - What are the social, economic and environmental implications of your work? - Has your project been implemented, or is it just an idea? - Does it work? - Can you prove it works? - What skills did you use to develop the idea? - What are its strengths and weaknesses? - What implications does your idea have for organisational change? Presentations and posters will be assessed by a panel of judges, who will select the best six for the Finals event in London on 26 November2015. As a Finalist, you will have the opportunity to present your poster to a public audience of industry professionals. The judges will then select a winner and a runner-up. As well as cash prizes for the winner and runner-up, all finalists will have their posters assessed for publication in the IET Digital Library. |
