Mediascape – META Section Call for Papers 2015 – Topic: “Time”
Considering visual media’s broader engagement with Transmedia, time or temporality becomes redefined when crossing over from the diegetic into the space of the viewership, or more specifically the new media user-ship. This participatory viewer can engage with the temporal space of media’s cross-platform broadcast, i.e. social media’s presence in the time and space of the diegetic world entering the real world’s social media or new media platforms. This ability of new media to engage an immersed participatory user alters the notion of its beginning and end, arguably setting this media apart from pre-digital finite forms of media, becoming a variable that is ever expanding or infinite. Additionally, consider the relationship between new media’s unpredictably transcendent presence and the user-ship’s time as capital. The META section of Mediascape is looking for essays and/or video essays exploring the ideas of new media’s relationship to time. The topics may include but are not limited to explorations regarding time in cinema, digital media, video games, streaming web based formats (serialized TV-like episodes) media marketing trends, binge watching/gaming, and seriality that expand beyond previous media limited by time; or limited to access because of time. Submissions are due by June 30th 2015 The META section strives to use digital media in its presentation. Submissions should be between 1000 and 5000 words, and must include a short video accompaniment: Either a video essay created by the user or one already available on the Internet to exemplify the issues discussed. If you have questions about META submissions, or wish to submit a paper or project for consideration, please contact Aruna Ekanayake at Mediascape.Meta@gmail.com with the subject header “Mediascape” META" by June 30th, 2015. |
