semdial 2014 - DialWatt THE 18TH WORKSHOP ON THE SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS OF DIALOGUE http://www.macs.hw.ac.uk/InteractionLab/Semdial/ 1-3 September 2014 Edinburgh ** Call for abstracts on ongoing projects or system demonstrations ** ** Submission deadline extended to 7 July 2014 ** --------------------------------------------------------------- DialWatt will be the 18th edition of the SemDial workshop series, which aims to bring together researchers working on the semantics and pragmatics of dialogue in fields such as formal semantics and pragmatics, computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience. *INVITED SPEAKERS:* - Holly Branigan (University of Edinburgh) - Jon Oberlander (University of Edinburgh) - Matthew Purver (Queen Mary, University of London) - Michael Schober (New School for Social Research) *ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS* We invite abstracts on ongoing projects or system demonstrations on all topics related to the semantics and pragmatics of dialogue, including, but not limited to: - dialogue and discourse structure - common ground/mutual belief - combination of statistical and symbolic methods - multimodal interaction - dialogue management - turn-taking and interaction control - categorisation of dialogue phenomena in corpora - child-adult interaction - language learning through dialogue - strategic communication - socially intelligent interaction - designing and evaluating dialogue systems Authors should submit an abstract of 2 pages of content (1 additional page is allowed for references). Formatting instructions and the URL of the submission site are available on the dialWatt website. Abstract submissions will not be refereed, but evaluated for relevance only by the chairs. As such, papers do not need to be anonymised. They will be presented as posters at the workshop. *IMPORTANT DATES:* Short paper submissions due: 7 July 2014 Final version due: 4 August 2014 DialWatt: 1-3 September 2014 *RELATED EVENTS* In 2014 the workshop will be hosted by the Interaction Lab (https://sites.google.com/site/hwinteractionlab/), Heriot-Watt University.
