Background
--------------------- Hyperreality tries to achieve a vision in which virtuality and reality are seamlessly blended together as if they were one, with no distinction on where one ends and the other begins; blending physical reality with virtual reality and human intelligence with artificial intelligence[1]. Technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality are used every day as standalone applications in areas such as computer gaming and mobile devices. Companies such as Google, Nokia and Microsoft are investing and developing technology and interfaces to connect virtual and real worlds. This creates huge opportunities for integration and research with intelligent environments. Intelligent Environments are physical spaces where context-aware technology is embedded in a seamless way to create interactive spaces, bridging computation with the physical world. This workshop focuses on innovation ideas for future ‘Next Generation’ Intelligent Environments, where virtual applications and data will allow users to further integrate themselves within augmented physical spaces. By exploring this area we aim to encourage further research and advances in Intelligent Environments by bringing together researchers and industry. Areas of interest --------------------- The proposed workshop aim to explore the integration between physical and virtual worlds in intelligent environments, augmenting their capacities to create innovative spaces. Examples of relevant areas of interest include: Ubiquitous Virtual Reality Augmented Reality Augmented Virtuality Artificial Intelligence Tangible user interfaces Cyber-physical systems Multidimensional spaces Multi-user and distributed systems Immersive environments Interactive Intelligent Environments Web technology for hyperreality Mobile applications for hyperreality Computer Games & Intelligent Environments Context-aware computing in virtual/real spaces Blended / Dual / Cross Reality Smart objects in multidimensional spaces Multimodal HCI for interaction and feedback Real-time behaviour analysis Agent-based approaches to AmI in multidimensional spaces Proof-of-concept and demonstration deployments Responsive / Active architecture Applications, user evaluation and social studies Security and privacy issues Perception, presence, and cognition Social issues and impact Format of Submissions --------------------- HyperRealitIE’14 welcomes original work as full papers (10-12 pages) and short papers (4-6 pages) as well as work-in-progress or position papers. Papers should be no more than 12 pages (for full papers) or 6 pages (for short papers). All papers accepted will be published as a volume of the Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments Series of IOS Press and electronically available through ACM Digital Library (ISI indexed). The format of the papers should adhere to IOS publication guidelines. All submitted papers will enter in a peer review process with at least two reviewers. All accepted submissions must be presented during the workshop. If you are interested in some other type of submission, please contact the organisers at hyper@intenv.org. Important Dates --------------------- Paper submission deadline (For Review): 4th April 2014 Notification of acceptance: 25th April 2014 Deadline for final manuscript: 6th May 2014 Workshop dates: 30th June – 1st July 2014 Venue --------------------- This event will be co-located with the 10th International Conference on Intelligent Environments IE’14 (2nd-4th July 2014, Shanghai, China).
