MapInteract 2015 3rd ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Interacting with Spatial Information Nov 3, Seattle, Washington, USA In a Glance www.MapInteract.org Submission Deadline: Sept 06 Research papers, position statements, demos of 2-6 pages Follow-up special issue in GeoInformatica About MapInteract 2015 Spatial information has become the backbone of countless applications, services, and research endeavors at various scales. We use spatial information to find our ways outdoors and indoors, to identify locations, to reason about spatial relations, to analyze the environment, to plan buildings and land use, to create the infrastructures and services of smart cities of the future, or to realise autonomous vehicles. The ubiquitous availability of spatial information enables exciting possibilities but also creates important challenges across all domains. How can we efficiently make use of spatial data? How can we identify information that really matters, e.g. during wayfinding in indoor and outdoor environments? How can we understand spatial relationships? How can we enable a broad range of people to easily specify complex spatial queries? How can we ensure that buildings are correctly specified? In many cases, users directly or indirectly interact with (complex) spatial information to achieve their goals in different domains and in various contexts such as decision-making, location-based services or GIS. Consequently, well-designed interactions with spatial data are a key step towards obtaining meaningful answers to the questions and problems that arise in these contexts. If the interaction is intuitive and efficient, spatial interfaces also become enjoyable in addition to being reliable tools. The goal of MapInteract 2015 is to bring together researchers interested in questions and challenges surrounding interaction with spatial information. The workshop is an interactive and hands-on event, and we thus invite the submission of research papers, position statements as well as interactive demos. Through a series of presentations, demos and activities we will discuss and experience new spatial interaction techniques and modalities, algorithms involved in interaction and visualization, user studies, adaptation, research agendas, common challenges etc. Submit your paper (2-6 pages) or demo (2 pages) to MapInteract 2015 if your work relates to interaction with spatial information and if it is concerned with one or more of the following topics: Map Interaction Spatial User Interfaces and Interaction Techniques Human-Computer Interaction with Spatial Information and Representations Interactive Spatial Visual Analytics Spatial Visualization Techniques Multi-modal Spatial Interfaces Tangible Interfaces for Spatial Information Interaction Design for Small, Large, Shared or Ambient Displays Algorithms for Interactive and Dynamic Maps Multi-user Interaction, Cooperation, Collaboration The list of topics above is indicative - further topics are welcome if they clearly relate to interaction with spatial information. We are explicitly looking for submissions from diverse domains and disciplines including (but not limited to): Cartography, Location-Based Services, Geography, Architecture, Smart Cities, Health, Disaster Management, Volunteered Geographic Information/Crowdsourcing The proceedings of the preceding events in this workshop series are available through the ACM Digital Library, and accepted papers and demos for MapInteract 2015 will be published there as well. In addition, we will edit a special issue of Geoinformatica following the workshop, which will specifically target interaction with spatial information. Important Dates Sep. 06, 2015 Submission Deadline Sep. 20, 2015 Notification of Acceptance Sept 29, 2015 Camera-ready Version due Nov. 03, 2015 Workshop at ACM SIGSPATIAL GIS 2015 Website www.MapInteract.org Contacts Falko Schmid, falko.schmid@guidingpeople.com Chris Kray, c.kray@uni-muenster.de |
