ERE2.3: Impact of resource exploitation on the environment

The exploitation of natural resources appeared in the 19th century as natural resource extraction developed. During the last century, energy consumption quickly increased. Today, a large part of the world’s energy consumption is maintained by the extraction of fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas). Another non-renewable resource that is exploited by humans are Subsoil minerals such as precious metals that are mostly used in the production of industrial commodities. As the world population rises and economic growth occurs, the depletion of natural resources influenced by the unsustainable extraction of raw materials becomes an increasing concern. This session is focused on the study and the analysis of problems arising from the exploitation of natural resources: deforestation, desertification, extinction of species, forced migration, soil erosion, oil depletion, ozone depletion, greenhouse gas increase, extreme energy, water pollution, natural hazard/natural disaster. We encourage researchers to submit papers dealing with this topic.

The deadline for the receipt of abstracts is 07 January 2015, 13:00 CET. In case you would like to apply for support, please submit an application no later than 28 November 2014.
