Workshop: Research on Enterprise Networking (WREN 2009)

August 21, 2009
Barcelona, Spain (in conjunction with SIGCOMM 2009)

Enterprise networks (in large corporations, universities,
government entities, etc.) use much of the same technology as the
Internet, but otherwise differ in important and interesting ways.
However, most researchers have focussed on public networks such as
the Internet. The WREN workshop will focus on research challenges
and results specific to enterprise and data-center networks.

We solicit original, unpublished research papers that set out
important problems, present relevant measurements or measurement
methodologies, or describe novel system designs for enterprise and
data center networks.

Examples of interesting topics (note that these are examples,
and are not meant to preclude submissions on other relevant topics):

* Comparative studies: what makes enterprise networks different
from the Internet? What properties do they share? Issues include:
* topology
* application/traffic mixes
* routing table complexity
* flow arrival rates and durations
* how much do different enterprise networks vary in characteristics
and configuration?
* Data center network design and measurement
* Monitoring, information security and compliance
* Enterprise Wireless network design and measurement
* Problem detection and diagnosis
* Managing and reducing technical complexity
* Energy efficiency in enterprise networks
* Convergence between IP networks and SAN/cluster networks
* Enterprise applications of Open Router Platforms
* End-to-end QoS and performance management for enterprise networks,
including integration with layers above the network
* Topology and node (switch + endpoint) discovery
* Network security threats and approaches to solutions
* Issues for collaborative research with academia, such as access
to enterprise data, testbeds, commercial management tools, etc.

Other relevant topics are certainly welcome; please contact the
Program Chair if you have questions about the relevance of your topic.

Submission instructions:

Submissions must be no greater than 8 pages, following the same
format as SIGCOMM 2009 conference submissions. Papers violating
these format rules run the risk of being rejected without further
review; no extensions will be granted for reformatting. Papers must
be submitted in PDF, with page numbers, and legible in black &
white. Reviews are single-blind; author names and affiliations
should appear on the submission.

Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, interest,
clarity, relevance, and technical quality.

Authors of accepted papers are expected to present their papers at
the workshop. Submissions must be original work, not under
simultaneous or overlapping review at any other workshop,
conference, or journal.

All submissions will be treated confidentially, and accepted papers
will not appear prior to the workshop date, except with explicit
prior consent by the authors.
