Call For Papers

The hyper connectivity era is upon us. Intelligence and miniaturization is creeping into the environment. The current and ongoing distribution of storage and processing is likely to move the computer as a standalone system into the background, leaving it as a mere computing device. This scenario opens the door for consumer electronics industry with a challenge full of opportunities by replacing the disappearing computer with a new user experience through addition of networked and ambient intelligence.
Intelligent systems have numerous civilian, homeland security, and military applications; however, all these applications carry certain requirements like communication bandwidth, sensing range, power constraints, stealth requirements prior to managing a centralized command and control. The alternative is distributed and networked coordination, which is proving to be more promising in terms of scalability, flexibility and robustness. Distributed and networked intelligence introduces problems, requires models, and raises issues such as collective periodic coordination, collective tracking with a dynamic leader, and containment control with multiple leaders, and explores ideas for their solution.
The aim of this book is to provide an internationally respected collection of scientific research of technologies and applications in distributed network intelligence. The book also aims at providing the readers with a better understanding of how distributed intelligent systems and services can be successfully implemented to incorporate recent trends and advances in theory and applications of network intelligence. This book will help in creating interest among researchers and practitioners towards realizing safe and distributed interactive multimedia systems.

The book is to be structured in parts as follows:
Part 1: Theory and Practical insights into Distributed Network Intelligence
Part2: Distributed Network Intelligence Architectures
Part3: Applications and New Trends in Security in distributed enterprises

Possible chapters might cover, though are not limited to the following:

Part 1: Theory and Practical insights into Distributed Network Intelligence
Next generation networks (NGN)
Scalability and manageability of network architectures
Ad-Hoc, Sensor, Vehicle networks
Mobile multimedia devices
Emerging computation business models

Part2: Distributed Network Intelligence Architectures
Network processors
Autonomic and dependable communications
Self Organizing networks
Ambient systems
Brain-like networking and computing

Part3: Applications and New Trends in Security in Distributed Enterprises
Identity and location in mobile environments
Surveillance, Home monitoring
Data protection strategies
Security in virtualization approach
Architectural support for security
Collaborative Internet attack containment
Security, privacy, and dependability
Security in cooperative networks
Visualization of network behavior
Network-aware applications
Multi-technology semantic integration (sensors, e-health, geosensing, etc)
Social networks, Medical and health applications

Submission Details: Each manuscript must be written in a tutorial style of chapters concerning the development process of complex distributed networked systems and services, thus revisiting the difficult issue of knowledge engineering of such systems. Expected manuscript length is between 10,000 to 12,500 words. Manuscripts submitted for the book must be original, must not be previously published or currently under review anywhere. Please follow A4 page format, single column with 11 point Times New Roman font with 1.5 line spacing while submitting your manuscript as MS-Office document. Use the number referencing style as usually used for regular research papers, NOT the APA style. That means, mention the reference numbers within the texts and in the references section, mention all the references with sequential numbers; [1], [2], [3]….

Target Audience: This book can prove useful to the researchers, professors, research students and practitioners as it will report novel research work on challenging topics in the area of distributed network intelligence. Moreover, the book is expected to include some chapters written in a tutorial style so that the general readers can be able to easily grasp some of the ideas in this area.

Submission Procedure: The submission of all documents is to be done directly via email to the Editor. A proposal for book chapter is needed as soon as possible from prospective authors before submitting the full chapter.

Important Dates:
Proposal Submission Due: April 30, 2012 (closed)
Full Manuscript Due: August 01, 2012 (closed)
Acceptance Notification: October 01, 2012 (Extended to October 10, 2012) (Closed)
Submission of Revised Chapters: November 01, 2012 (Closed)
Publication Time: April, 2013 (tentative)

Inquiries and submissions can be forwarded electronically (Word document) or by mail to:
