======================================================================================== Special Session on Energy-efficient Image Processing Techniques for Wireless Sensor Networks (EIPT-WSN'13) Under the framework of the International Conference of Signal Processing, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition (ICSIPR'13) will be held on February 7-8, 2013 in Tamil Nadu, India. http://www.karunya.edu/ece/icsipr13/special%20sesssion3.pdf ======================== = General Information = ======================== Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have many applications ranging from environmental monitoring, security management, and medical applications to smart homes. That’s because WSN has become a new paradigm in information gathering technique where each node equipped with devices used to monitor and collect the data, process the collected data, and then transmit the data to its adjacent neighbour nodes. The recent availability of inexpensive hardware such as CMOS and charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras has enabled the new research field of image-based wireless sensor networks. The camera has the ability to capture still image from the environment. However, transferring raw data of large size (e.g., image data) requires a huge bandwidth and high processing capabilities. As a result it causes rapid depletion of on-board power, increases congestion in the routing channels of the WSN and enforces the early death of wireless sensor nodes. The main issue in these image-based wireless sensor applications is how to carry out their computation intensive tasks while efficiently use the sensor nodes’ on-board depletable energy. This special session emphasizes the usage of image processing techniques such as compression and transformation, filtering, lossless coding and quantization in order to improve the performance of image-based wireless sensor networks. The aim of this session is to attract researchers and practitioners from academia and industry in order to provide a discussion environment for sharing their experiences of using advanced image processing techniques for addressing the challenges in the area of image-based and visual wireless sensor networks. ====================== = Topics of Interest = ====================== Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • Visual Sensor Networks • Image Coding and Compression techniques • Image Transfer in Wireless Sensor Networks • Computation and Energy Efficient Image Processing techniques • Image Segmentation and Clustering Algorithms • Image Acquisition, Storage, and Data Mining Techniques • Image Processing and Analysis • Content-based Image Retrieval • Image-Based Modeling • Content-based Image retrieval • Matching and Registration • Medical Imaging and Visualization ========================= = Submission Guidelines = ========================= The session welcomes contributions covering theories, methodologies, modeling and applications of image processing in WSNs. Submissions must be original and should not have been published previously. Authors are invited to submit their contributions formatted as IEEE double columns. Submitted papers will be refereed by at least two reviewers for quality, correctness, originality, and relevance. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceeding and will be indexed by IEEE Xplore digital library. Authors are kindly asked to follow the (ICSIPR'13) submission system (https://www.easychair.org/account/signin.cgi?conf=icsipr13) along with sending an email to session co-chair (mohamed.eltaweel@egyptscience.net) including paper_ID and paper_title. ================================================ = Tentative Dates of Submission and Acceptance = ================================================ Deadline for paper submission: ………………………… December 1st, 2012 Notification of Acceptance: …………………………………… December 17th, 2012 Deadline for Camera-ready Submission: ………… January 2nd, 2013 Registration Deadline: ………………………………………………… January 2nd, 2013 Conference dates: ……………………………………………………………… February 7th-8th, 2013 ================== = Session Chairs = ================== Mohamed Mostafa Eltaweel Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport Cairo, Egypt mohamed.eltaweel @egyptscience.net Nashwa El-Bendary Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport Cairo, Egypt nashwa.elbendary@ieee.org nashwa.elbendary@egyptscience.net Aboul Ella Hassanien Cairo University Faculty of Computers and Information Cairo, Egypt Abo@egyptscience.net ================================================================== ================================================================== |
