DBSocial 2011 (in conjunction with SIGMOD/PODS 2011) - First Call For Papers
Website: https://sites.google.com/site/dbsocial11/ Sponsors: ACM SIGMOD / Google, Inc. === Call For Papers === DBSocial (ACM SIGMOD Workshop on Databases and Social Networks) 2011, to be held in Athens, Greece in conjunction with SIGMOD/PODS 2011, is a venue for database research applied to the problems of extraction, querying, and analysis of social networks. DBSocial aims at disseminating results founded on database research and practice that advance the state-of-the-art in the observation, management, and analysis of inherently networked data originating primarily from social phenomena. DBSocial welcomes both theoretical and practical papers whose approaches are within the scope of databases and very closely related areas (e.g., data mining and information retrieval), and whose validations are on par with the high standards in the database community. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): * Performance and Scalability of Social Network Analysis * Benchmarking for Social Network Analysis * Discovery, Collection, and Extraction of Social Network Data * Curation and Provenance in Social Networks * Representation of Uncertainty in Social Network Analysis * Analysis of Dynamic Social Networks * Visualization of Social Networks * Exploration and Analysis of Massive Social Networks * Summarization of Massive Social Networks * Parallel, Distributed, or Cloud Computation on Social Network Data * Distributed Architectures for Online Social Networks * Data Modeling for Social Networks * Processing of Social Stream Data * Social Search, Retrieval, and Ranking * Collaborative Platforms and Social Recommendation * Access Control in Online Social Networks * Private Analysis of Social Networks * Privacy Policies for Online Social Networks * Identity, Reputation, and Trust in Online Social Networks * Algorithms and Analysis Techniques for Meme Tracking === Important Dates === Submission: April 8th, 2011 (Friday) 6pm US ET Notification: May 9th, 2011 (Monday) Camera Ready: May 23rd, 2011 (Monday) Workshop: June 12th, 2011 (Sunday) === Keynote Speakers === We are thrilled to have Dr. Jignesh Patel (University of Wisconsin, Madison) and Dr. Duncan Watts (Yahoo! Reseearch) as our confirmed keynote speakers. Jignesh Patel (Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison) Jignesh M. Patel is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1998. His current research interests are in large-scale data management, spatial data management, and biological data management. He is the recipient of an NSF Career Award, multiple IBM Faculty Awards, and the CIDR 2007 Gong Show Timeless Idea Award. He has served as the VLDB 2009 Core Database Technology PC Chair, as Vice-Chair for IEEE ICDE 2005, as an Associate Editor for the Systems and Prototype section of ACM SIGMOD Record, and as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Data Engineering Bulletin. He is also the co-founder of Locomatix, a startup providing cloud-hosted location services and solutions. Under his leadership, Locomatix has won numerous awards including being named the 20 hottest startup by MobileBeat in 2010, and being selected as the top 16 Innovative Startups by CTIA in 2010. Duncan Watts (Principal Research Scientist at Yahoo! Labs) Duncan Watts is a principal research scientist at Yahoo! Research, where he directs the Human Social Dynamics group. He is also an adjunct senior research fellow at Columbia University, and an external faculty member of the Santa Fe Institute and Nuffield College, Oxford. His research on social networks and collective dynamics has appeared in a wide range of journals, from Nature, Science, and Physical Review Letters to the American Journal of Sociology. He is also the author of Six Degrees: The Science of a Connected Age (W.W. Norton, 2003) and Small Worlds: The Dynamics of Networks between Order and Randomness (Princeton University Press, 1999). His upcoming book, Everything Is Obvious: *Once You Know the Answer (Crown Business, 2011), will be released in March 2011. He holds a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of New South Wales, and Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University. === Program Committee === Workshop co-chairs * Denilson Barbosa, Univ. of Alberta * Gerome Miklau, Univ. of Massachusetts, Amherst * Cong Yu, Google Research, New York Program Committee * Eugene Agichtein (Emory University) * Sihem Amer-Yahia (Yahoo!
