Special Issue on AI Agents

Multiagent and Grid Systems - An International Journal (SAGE Publications)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is undergoing a transformative shift from standalone predictive models toward autonomous, goal-driven AI agents capable of perception, reasoning, planning, learning, and action. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs), foundation models, generative AI, and agentic architectures have accelerated the development of intelligent agents that can collaborate, negotiate, coordinate, and adapt in dynamic environments.

Multi-agent systems (MAS) are emerging as a critical paradigm for enabling distributed intelligence, collective problem-solving, and scalable autonomous decision-making across domains such as smart cities, healthcare, manufacturing, cyber-physical systems, digital twins, autonomous transportation, finance, energy systems, and scientific discovery. The convergence of AI agents, agentic workflows, edge-cloud infrastructures, and grid/distributed computing is creating unprecedented opportunities and challenges for the design, deployment, governance, security, and evaluation of intelligent autonomous systems.

This special issue aims to present the latest theoretical advances, methodologies, frameworks, architectures, tools, and applications related to AI agents and multi-agent systems.
