The Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon is pleased to announce the International Aristotelian Conference, which will take place from July 2 to July 4, 2025. This conference aims to bring together researchers at all career stages from around the globe to discuss topics within the realm of Aristotelian studies. The event will also lay the foundation for establishing an international society for Aristotelian studies, fostering a long-term platform for collaboration and discussion.

Conference Scope:
We invite proposals on any aspect of Aristotelian inquiry, including, but not limited to, logic (broadly construed), epistemology and philosophy of science, philosophy of nature, philosophy of mind, philosophy of living things, metaphysics, moral philosophy, political philosophy, rhetoric, and poetics.
Proposals related to the translation of Aristotle’s writings and their modern editions, the fragments of Aristotle’s lost works, the influence of earlier thinkers on his philosophy, the development of Aristotle’s ideas, Aristotle as a historian of philosophy, the Peripatetic tradition, and the reception of his thought throughout the history of philosophy to the present day are also welcome.

Submission Categories:
The conference invites submissions under the following categories:
Individual papers.
Panels.
Round tables.
Discussions of books on Aristotle and the Aristotelian tradition published within the last five years.

Languages:
Presentations may be given in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. However, proposals must be submitted in English. Those presenting in languages other than English are strongly encouraged to provide a written version of their talk or an English translation for distribution or display.

Deadlines:
Submission of proposals: 31 January 2025.
Notification of accepted proposals: 31 March 2025.
Payment of registration fees: 30 April 2025.

Submission Guidelines:
Individual Papers:
Submissions should include:
A short bio of the author (up to 200 words).
An abstract of the paper (between 500 and 800 words).
Papers should be conceived for a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of discussion.
Panels:
Submissions should include:
Short bios of the panel organisers and of each participant (up to 200 words each).
The title and a description of the panel (up to 500 words).
Abstracts of all papers, summarising its content and explaining how they relate to the panel (up to 500 words).
The conference schedule will be organised into one-hour and one-and-a-half-hour slots. Panels should be structured to fit these slots but may extend across multiple slots if needed.
Round Tables:
Submissions should include:
Short bios of the organisers and participants (up to 200 words each).
The title, objectives, and rationale for the round table (up to 500 words).
Round tables should be planned to occupy a single one-hour or one-and-a-half-hour slot.
Book Discussions:
Submissions should include:
Short bios of the organisers and participants (up to 200 words each).
The author, title, and publication date of the book, along with a justification for its significance (up to 500 words).
Book discussions should be designed to fit within a one-hour or one-and-a-half-hour slot.
Only a limited number of book discussions will be featured in the conference programme, so proposals should make a compelling case for the book’s importance.

Bios should contain:
Name;
Email address;
Academic status (e.g., professor, independent researcher, student);
Institutional affiliation (if applicable);
Title of the paper, panel, round table, or book to be discussed;
The topic category of the submission.

Registration Fees:
Participant: 200€ (includes coffee breaks and lunches)
Student/Accompanying person: 100€ (includes coffee breaks and lunches)
Optional closing dinner: the dinner price, registration method, and payment details will be announced later.
