Call for Initial Abstracts for Chapter Submissions for Kendall Hunt Publishing’s Group Dynamics and Group Processes: Human Interaction in Counseling, Human Services, and Leadership
The editor of the Group Dynamics and Group Processes: Human Interaction in Counseling, Human Services, and Leadership (publisher: Kendall Hunt Publishing) is seeking chapter submissions for this edited volume. At this time, initial abstracts for proposed chapters are requested. The primary aim of Group Dynamics and Group Processes: Human Interaction in Counseling, Human Services, and Leadership is to provide readers from a variety of helping backgrounds with skills and theoretical understanding of group dynamics and group processes across helping professions and leadership within helping professions. The text will also address the needs of diverse clientele and groups. Helping professionals who may benefit from this handbook include counselors, social workers, psychologists, school psychologists, substance use counselors, rehabilitation counselors, school counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, leaders, organizational leaders, and educators who are supporting the development of clinicians-in-training and future helping professions leaders. Practitioners may utilize this text as a guide to assist with increasing understanding, practical skill application, and leadership of groups within helping professions and leadership within helping professions organizations. The proposed edited volume will include 15 chapters, with an introductory chapter, and one chapter dedicated to each of the various facets of group dynamics, processes, facilitation, theory, and leadership. The chapter will address- Group Size and Composition, Establishing Purpose of Group, Group Norms and Cohesion, Group Roles and Role Theory, Leadership in Groups, Power/ Status/and Influence in Groups. The chapter should also address- Group Interaction Strategies to include Rounds, Dyads & Triads, Large Format Discussion Structure, etc . • Chapter 5: V. Group Decision-Making. This chapter will discuss- Group Decision-Making Models, Factors Influencing Group Decision-Making, Decision-Making Bias and Groupthink, and Conflict Resolution and Problem Solving in Groups. • Chapter 7: Group Development and Change. This chapter will include- The Lifecycle of Groups, Group Adaptation and Evolution, Factors Affecting Group Change, and Managing and Facilitating Change in Groups • Chapter 9: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice in Groups. This chapter will focus in- Cultural Consciousness and Cultural Competence in Group Dynamics; Gender and Diversity in Groups, Managing and Leveraging Diversity in Groups; Inclusivity and Social Justice in Group Processes; Support, Inclusion, and Accommodation for Historically Marginalized Groups; and Trauma Informed Group Facilitation and Leadership • Chapter 11: Group Dynamics in Special Contexts. This chapter will include- Group Therapy and Counseling, Human Services, and Helping Professions, Educational Settings and Classroom Dynamics, Group Dynamics in Healthcare, Political and Community Groups, Leader and Leadership Development of Groups to include feedback, assessing group effectiveness, and measuring/monitoring group progress. • Chapter 12: Theories in Groups. Theories that will be covered (at minimum)- Gestalt Theory, Motivational Interviewing. Reality Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Theory. Adlerian Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Theory. Solution Focused Brief Therapy Systems Theory, Person Centered Theory, Group Coaching • Chapter 13: Exercises, Application, and Practical Guidance. Topics will include Group Facilitation and Leadership Skills, Group Evaluation and Assessment, Training and Development in Group Dynamics, Practical Tips for Navigating Group Processes, Role-playing & Role Plays, and Expressive and Creative exercises Abstracts selected for full chapter submission: Proposed chapters will be no more than 15 pages single spaced, or 30 pages double spaced. Authors may submit figures and tables for each chapter. Each chapter will include the following components: • Introduction to the chapter • Overview of the principle (listed in the table of contents), to include key concepts and definitions • Inclusion of relevant theory related to practice, groups, and leadership. • Provide 1 of the following: 1) an example group concept in practice via a case study, and supporting role play, OR 2) questions for review & practice OR 3) group exercise or activity related to group concept or theory. |
