BOOK DESCRIPTION

The "Language-Society-Environment Nexus" is a prominent cross-disciplinary field of research that has been commonly addressed by the scientific community. Be it a newspaper article, a video, a classroom activity, a political debate, a social network page, creative writing, or a textbook course, we think that environmental studies have been striving to maintain the protection of nature in all its interconnectivity, including all beings, humans and animals. Today, environmental studies are a magnet that connects ecology, society, and language. For example, problems like climate change, global warming, pollution, sustainable development, animals extinction, and waste management among others have been linking politics, economy, urbanism, education, and culture to language. Thanks to evolving trends in environmental studies, many theories and practices have been put in place to explore and comprehend underlying impacts, uncertainties, preoccupations, and the unavailability of appropriate and tangible methods to quench man’s interventionism, overexploitation, and degradation of the natural resources. Despite skepticism about the reality of some environmental issues (Climate Change & Global Warming), dangers facing humanity have been plentifully explained via different modes of expressions. In this respect, scientists are admitting that the risks that humanity is facing, in terms of life quality and health, are immense. In this regard, the United Nations warned in April, 2022 that the world would be "set to face 1.5 disasters a day - 560 a year - by 2030, as humans put themselves on a 'spiral of selfdestruction' by heating up the climate and ignoring risk, pushing millions more people into poverty". We believe that the theme of the book "Language, Society and the Environment" will explore and unearth the extent to which the environmental crisis, embedded in different forms of communication (Verbal & Visual), and will unveil the reality of the ecological systems and their resilience in the Anthropocene. This book will also aim to discuss theories, practices, initiatives and applications in the field of language, society and the environment from different perspectives and knowledge backgrounds. It will definitely inspire and bring scholars to speak on principal approaches in their respective research interests, while enriching the body of research on the theme.
