Introduction
Today, the importance of behavioral study is gaining increasing recognition. However, current
research mainly focuses on empirical and qualitative studies of behaviors of animals and organisms.
With the boom in social networks and Internet-based activities which are significantly increasing in
most modern behaviors, it is important to build formal methods and workable tools for behavior
representation, processing and engineering, namely Behavior Informatics. Behavior Informatics aims
at computing methodologies and techniques for handling behavior modeling, representation,
dynamics, network analysis, impact analysis, pattern analysis, management and applications.
Book Aims
The edited book will report state-of-the-art advances in methodologies, techniques, systems and
applications of behavior modeling and analysis. Although there are some newly established
conferences and workshops, as well as Special Issues on behavior modeling and analysis of social
networks, this edited book will create an important opportunity to broaden current research to areas
that consist of behaviors. It aims to serve as a central source of reference for the theory and
applications of behavior informatics, establishing state of the art research, disseminating the latest
research discoveries, and providing a ground-breaking textbook to senior undergraduate and
postgraduate students. All areas of behavior informatics are included.

Submissions
Two-stage submission: First, interested researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a chapter
proposal clearly stating your focused problems and contributions related to one of the above topics,
due on Dec 31, 2010. Secondly, authors of accepted proposals will be notified by Jan 15, 2011 on the
status of their proposals and will be sent chapter organisational guidelines. Full chapters are due by
Feb 28, 2011. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. The book is
scheduled for publication in 2011 by Springer. Detailed manuscript instructions are available from
Springer Book Author Guidelines, and only Latex format is acceptable.
Chapter proposal guideline: The proposal is expected to be 2 pages in length, in either Word (.doc)
or Adobe (.pdf) format, and composed of title, authors (name, affiliation, phone number, and e-mail
address), extended abstract (background, related work, principal contributions, and so on), table of
contents, and contact.
