The JYEM Challenge - Research Paper Competition (RPC)

(Past events)

Late submission deadline for the RPC is 6/15/2021.
There are 3 different types of awards: category awards, special awards and Amazon eGift Cards.

Publish Your Project - Publishing your Project on JYEM (PPJ)

Late submission deadline for the PPJ is 6/15/2021.
The selected projects will be published in the next volume of JYEM.
Accepted PPJ winners will receive special recognition and Amazon eGift Cards.

The Photo and Image Competition is open year round (PIC)

You can create a new account or use an existing account.
Go to the menu bar on top and select "Submission Portal" to fill out the form.
The PIC is for students who submit photos, images and drawings.

Awards - Grand Prize winner and other selected winners will receive Amazon.com eGift Cards.
Amazon eGift Cards ranging from $50 to $350 ($350/$200/$100/50) will be given to the first place, second place, third place, and honorable mention overall.
$1,000 Amazon eGift Card will be given to one Grand Prize winner.
Internship opportunities will be available for selected candidates.
All the categories of awards will be judged by senior members of JYEM/YEGI/NY-CSEF.

Rules

Please upload the materials online: go to the menu bar on top and select “Submission Portal” to upload the project material with the application form [download].
Your project will be available for review by judges throughout the judging period.
All the submissions will go through a rigorous triple-blind peer review.
The submission deadline is at 11:59 EST on the day posted.
STEM project requires at least one image(any image representing the research or an image obtained from the research) for all submissions. Omission of an image may affect the consideration for acceptance to the first-round review.
Multiple Submissions:
Submission of a project that describes the same work to more than one volume of JYEM is not allowed. You can submit RPC and PPJ at the same time with the same project.
Award Announcement: Generally 2-3 weeks after the submission due date (final results will be posted on the website)
When your manuscript is accepted for the next round of review, judges may request more information if it is needed.
Your paper for submission(s) for RPC/ PPJ will be one (or both) of the following:
- A work in progress (preliminary or initial stage of research/investigation) paper of 3 - 5 pages
- A full paper of 7 ~ 30 pages
There is no specific paper format required. (Final revisions of the paper contents and format will be requested once the project is accepted)
RPC/PPJ - Projects cannot exceed 30 pages. (If it exceeds, please describe the reason via email.)
Team projects must check the Team Project box in the application form [click here] and list all the coauthors’ information in the Author section of the Abstract including each author’s complete name, school, and email. The corresponding author should be noted. From one to three students can work on a single project
If you have problems uploading documents online, please send your research project documents(doc or docx file) or images/photos to info@jyem.org directly with the application form [download].
There are no strict formatting requirements but all manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed for your manuscript: for example Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions, Artwork, and Tables with Captions. Only when your paper is at the revision stage after the final round, we will request you to put your paper into a specific format for the publication of your article.
