Introduction
Biometrics brings convenient way to safeguard the identity of individuals as well as valuable belongings associated with the subjects. In the last three decades, the world has witnessed a rapid, but consistent development of novel biometrics systems. With the most effective biometrics traits and vision techniques, these systems have been designed and thereafter, deployed to the fields where protection of identity is the biggest challenge and might be a threat to the society. In recent time, healthcare biometrics has emerged as a new area of biometrics applications and as a positive effect, industry experts estimate that healthcare biometrics will drive global market with major technological transformation. Healthcare biometrics could be dealt with two issues: providing entry to access healthcare related resources and patient identification for maintaining patient privacy and safety. Healthcare biometrics could be utilized in access control, patient identification and monitoring, workforce management and patient record management. Sincere effort and effective use of healthcare biometrics might be helpful to eradicate fraudulent and susceptible happenings in healthcare services. At the same time, it will reduce the medical identity theft and manipulation of patient healthcare data and fraudulent claims made by hospital management. Latest technological developments in biometrics systems facilitate the healthcare sectors for adopting biometric systems in order to use entire medical facilities to be integrated with biometric systems so that better service can be provided to the patients and improve medical services. Hence, a careful selection of one or more biometric traits along with suitable machine vision, pattern classification, and effective ensemble techniques could serve the purpose of using biometric systems with existing medical facilities.

Objective
The aim of this book is to provide a collection of latest developments made on healthcare biometrics and its related areas to ensure exhibiting state-of-the-art technologies. This book will discuss various issues related to healthcare biometrics and their effective solutions presented in a well-organized manner. This book will include cutting-edge biometrics methodologies like template protection, adaptive systems, cohort selection, ensemble systems, deep learning, liveness detection, sparse representation, identity management, cyber-physical biometrics systems, affective algorithms, recurrent networks, biometrics-as-a-service, heterogeneous biometrics and blockchain biometrics technology along with the traditional systems. This book will also focus and include the chapters which are presented on the case studies and reports related to large scale biometrics systems and industrial healthcare biometrics products.

Target Audience
The book will be helpful to the communities composed of educators, researchers, faculty members, industry practitioners, graduate students, etc. Besides, the same would be proved to be beneficial to the professionals working with healthcare services, government policy making tasks and planning, government enforcement agencies, legal and regulatory services, and with business enterprises in order to understand the practical aspects of next-generation healthcare biometrics systems and future research directions. Further, it would help them in installing and commissioning of the healthcare biometrics systems in the healthcare sectors where susceptible activities of attackers are detected. The overall nature of the proposed book will attract a large number of enthusiastic people who are actively related to biometrics research and would like to move into the direction of healthcare biometrics.
