Scope
Embedded computing systems enable highly optimized special-purpose services provided by host devices. Though miniaturized and mostly invisible, embedded systems make up the lion's share of all computer systems in the world. They pervade everyday life unnoticed. Due to microscopic sizes and mass production volumes, the driving system development factor is low unit cost, rather than development cost. The downsizing of embedded systems goes hand in hand with an unrelenting growth of memory and storage capacity. Their functionality is growing proportionally. A continuously expanding range of new applications with sizable data volumes for embedded systems is taking shape. Since "function gravitates to data" (J. Gray, NASD'98), traditional data management issues and problems are re-emerging for embedded systems. Solutions for conventional systems and architectures need to be reconsidered and replanted in the context of embedded systems. EDACS 2009 will provide a forum for presenting and discussing state-of-the-art, on-going and innovative research and development in this exciting new field. Topics We are calling for papers presenting original research results, innovative ideas, work in progress, industrial experience, case studies or position statements. Submissions should highlight aspects of Embedded Data-Centric Systems in areas including, but not limited to the following topics: * Applications (Automotive, Avionic, Domotic, Gaming, Medical, Others) * Capillary Networking * Conceptual Modeling and Design * Data-Centric Appliances * Data Confidence (Availability, Integrity, Security) * Debugging, Testing and Profiling * Dependability and Reliability * Distribution and Replication * Embedded AI (Things That Think) * Embedded Architectures * Embedded Databases * Embedded Information Management * Embedded Networks * Embedded Monitoring and Control * Energy-efficient Devices and Services * Error Diagnosis and Fault Tolerance * Hard-, Soft- and Middleware Issues * Interoperability * Mobile and Wireless Systems * Multithreading * Open Source Solutions * Parallelization * Performance Evaluation * Pervasive Data * Real-Time Systems * Resource-constrained Updating * Sensor Systems * Systems on a Chip (SoC) Submissions Please submit here an electronic version (preferably .pdf) of original unpublished work by March 1, 2009. For dates and deadlines, click here. Submissions must be neither published nor under revision elsewhere, be written in English, contain an abstract of about 200 words and should not exceed 5000 words. In case of problems, please contact the program chair. We recommend to use the IEEE format of the final versions of accepted papers. Proceedings All papers submitted to EDACS 2009 will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers must be presented at the workshop and will be published in an IEEE proceedings volume of the DEXA 2009 workshops.
