CALL FOR PAPERS

THE IMAGE OF IMPACT in Literature, Media, and Society

Double Tree by Hilton Greeley at Lincoln Park, Greeley, CO
March 13-14, 2020

Each year, the SASSI conference addresses the influence of images in literature, media, and society with a new and different thematic focus (e.g. The Image of Rebirth, The Image of Adventure). The theme for 2020 explores the image of IMPACT - in culture, literature, philosophy, history, politics, economics, film, television, art, music, social theory, and business. From vocabulary.com: The noun impact can refer to a physical force (like a collision), an influence (a bad role
model or a hero), or a strong effect (a foot of snow will have an impact on driving conditions).

All interpretations of IMPACT are welcomed. All eras and cultures are appropriate. All aspects of impact (e.g. influence/affect, result/effect, strike, enrapture) and all contrasts with impact (e.g. cushion, deterrence) are relevant. All methodologies welcome. Possible approaches:
* Impact in literature, art: short stories, novels, statues, paintings, exhibits
* Impact in popular culture: movies, television, songs, comics/graphic novels
* Impact as measured by issues of class, culture, ethnicity, economic status
* Myths and legends of impact: folklore, fairy tales, oral traditions
* Impact as found in social movements, political life, everyday life
* Mediated impact: social media, media effects, uses and gratifications
* Other imaginative variations - eclectic and innovative approaches are encouraged

Conference Proceedings will be published. Attendees receive a hard copy, and a digital copy with ISSN will be hosted in Scholarship & Creative Works @ Digital UNC. Fees are, for presenters, $100 early bird (pre-Feb. 21, 2020) and $125 after. Additional $50 for inclusion in proceedings. Non-presenters: $50. Graduate students are welcome and organized panels are encouraged.

Please submit a one-page abstract, or a one-page panel proposal with brief individual abstracts, by December 13, 2019 to SASSI@unco.edu. Peer-reivewed. Submission of materials assumes that, if accepted, the submitter will attend the conference. Questions? For further information contact conference host Thomas Endres at SASSI@unco.edu.

Greeley is approximately one hour north of Denver, one hour south of Cheyenne, WY, and one hour east of Estes Park, CO. The conference will be held at the Double Tree by Hilton Greeley at Lincoln Park. See www.unco.edu/SASSI for details.
