Call For Papers

You are cordially invited to participate in the 13th International Conference on Blended Learning (ICBL 2020) to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on 21 to 24 July 2020.

Blended learning has become one of the promising approaches to teaching and learning. It aims to integrate traditional learning with innovative means, such as e-learning and open online learning, to create new learning environments in order to improve learning effectiveness and enrich learning experience. These smart learning environments are particularly suitable for the emerging “smart city” supported by huge heterogeneous network infrastructures which provide augmented experiences through mobile and smart devices that can mobilize learning activities, and at the same time facilitates the collection of learning-related data for learning analytics. Such a smart learning environment may be able to support a wide range of teaching and learning activities in different subject matters at different levels. ICBL 2020 provides a platform for knowledge exchange and experience sharing among researchers and practitioners in this field.

The conference theme of ICBL 2020 is Blended Learning : Education in a Smart Learning Environment. Original papers reporting novel applications of blended learning are welcome. ICBL 2020 covers all topics in blended learning including, but not limited to:

Adaptive Learning
Applications of Smart Education (e.g., in Engineering, Computer Science, and Business)
Assessment for Blended Learning
Computer Supported Collaborative Learning
Content Development for Blended Learning
Enriching Learning Experience with Blended Learning
Experiences in Blended Learning
Game-based Learning
Improved Flexibility of Learning Processes
Interactive Blended Learning Solutions
Knowledge-based Smart Society
Open Education Resources
Organizational Frameworks for Blended Learning
Pedagogical and Psychological Issues
Smart Classrooms and Smart Universities
Smart Education and E-Learning
Strategies for Blended Learning

Paper Submission: Original papers should be written in English and submitted by 31 January 2020. Your paper should follow the Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science format in 10 to 12 pages. The Conference Proceedings will be published by Springer under the Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series. The ICBL 2020 Springer's Best/Excellent Paper Awards will be granted to authors of papers with exceptional merits. Authors of selected good papers will be invited to submit extended papers (with at least 50% new contents) to relevant Thematic/Special Issues of the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (SSCI listed, impact factor = 1.935), the International Journal of Innovation and Learning (ESCI listed), and other journals.

History of ICBL

The International Conference on Blended Learning (ICBL) is an annual international conference with the main focus on blended learning – an integration of the traditional learning with innovative means, such as e-learning and open online learning, in order to create a new learning environment to enhance learning effectiveness and enrich learning experience. The purpose is to bring together researchers and developers from education and computer science to advance the research of blended learning.

ICBL is the continuation of the International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL) series which started in 2008. Following the success of ICHL 2015, the ICHL 2015 Conference Chair and Programme Chair together with some other Organizing Committee members decided to continue the Conference with a new name ICBL, starting from 2016. This new name ICBL would better reflect the latest practice in the field, as it has become an established trend to integrate (not only to combine) the traditional learning with e-learning and other innovative means of learning (such as open education resources and social media) to create a blended learning environment to enhance learning effectiveness and enrich learning experience.

ICBL together with its predecessors ICHL had attracted hundreds of delegates from many countries, including China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, UK, Canada, and USA. Previous ICHL conferences are highlighted below.

The 1st International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL 2008) was held on 13-15 August 2008 at the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR. The conference proceedings was published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volume 5169) by Springer.

The 2nd International Conference on Hybrid Learning (ICHL 2009) was held on 25-27 August 2009 at the University of Macau, Macau. The conference proceedings was published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volume 5685) by Springer.
