Call For Papers

The European Conference on Ambient Intelligence is the prime venue for research on Ambient Intelligence, with an international and interdisciplinary character. It brings together researchers and practitioners from the fields of science, engineering, and, design working towards the vision of Ambient Intelligence. AmI 2019 builds on the success of thirteen predecessor conferences, which started in 2003 with the EUSAI-event in Veldhoven, The Netherlands. More information about the AmI series can be found here:

Ambient intelligence refers to normal working and living environments being surrounded by embedded devices that can merge unobtrusively and in natural ways using information and intelligence hidden in the network connecting these devices (e.g. The Internet of Things). Such devices, each specialised in one or more capabilities, are intended to work together based on an infrastructure of intelligent systems, to provide a variety of services improving safety, security and the quality of life in ordinary living, travelling and working environments.

AmI2019 will provide a meeting point for each of these communities, aiming for intensive networking and scientific debate, and shaping visions of the future.

This year's event focus topic is “Data-driven Ambient Intelligence” that follows the vision of Calm Technology, where technology is useful but does not demand our full attention or interfere with our usual behavior and activities.

The Proceedings of AmI2019 will be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Best Paper Award: 1,000 EUR, sponsored by Springer.

We invite submissions of full and short papers presenting original research. AmI 2019 is an interdisciplinary venue for leading international researchers, designers, and practitioners that present and discuss new results in Ambient Intelligence.

The length of each paper including figures and references may not exceed 16 pages for regular papers and 6 pages for short papers.

Papers must be anonymized to facilitate blind review. Authors are encouraged to minimize any references that may reveal the identity of the authors and their institutions. Relevant references to an author's previous research should not be suppressed but instead referenced in a neutral way. All papers will be reviewed by at least three Program Committee members.

The length of each paper including figures and references may not exceed 16 pages for regular papers and 6 pages for short papers. The posters session aims to collect papers showing work in progress and thus raise opportunities to present and discuss current work in an informal setting. These papers will be presented as posters in the conference. Poster contributions may not exceed 2 pages, including figures and references.

All paper and poster submissions must be written in English and submitted in PDF format.
For preparation of papers and posters please follow the instructions for authors available at the Springer LNCS Web page (

Authors of full and short papers are welcome to submit using the conference review system:

The authors of the best papers to be accepted at AmI 2019 will be invited to submit substantially extended and revised versions of their papers with at least 70% new material to a special journal issue for AmI 2019 to be published in the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanised Computing, by Springer.

- Full Papers and Short Papers Submissions due: 19th July 2019
- Notification of Acceptance/Rejection: 12nd August 2019
- Camera-Ready Versions due: 22nd August 2019
- Author Registration: 22nd August 2019
- Early (non-author) Registration: 30th September 2019

AmI2019 hosts one-day or half-day workshops that enhance and complement the conference program by providing an opportunity to present new or emerging and cutting-edge topics of particular interest in the field and related areas.

- Ambient Intelligence for promoting Sustainable Behaviors (BRAINS)
- Edge Machine Learning for Smart IoT Environments (EDGING)
- Ambient Intelligence in the Blockchain Era: How Decentralized Services can Revolutionize the Traditional Client Server Paradigm in Automation and Ambient Intelligence

AmI2019 hosts a one-day tutorial organized by ST Microelectronics on Microcontrollers and Artificial Intelligence that will take place during Wednesday, 13th of November, 2019.

The tutorial will include a practical session with a microcontroller board and your laptop. Participants are encouraged to bring their pre-trained feed forward neural network targeting STM32 resources in Keras or Caffe as a challenge to get it mapped and running.

AmI2019 hosts the PhD Forum that intends to bring together PhD students working on theories and applications of Ambient Intelligence. We particularly encourage students that are somewhere in the middle of their research to submit to this Forum.

AmI 2019 hosts the Poster & Demo sessions. The Posters session aims to solicit papers showing work in progress and thus raise opportunities to present and discuss current work in an informal setting. The Demo session provides a venue for the latest breakthroughs in ambient intelligence to be presented live to the research community.
