International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting
Special Issue on Advances in Multimedia Broadcasting over IPWireless Networks Call for Papers The ever-increasing demand for wireless multimedia applications has resulted in spectacular strides in the progress of wireless communication systems. These advances have occurred within the multimedia communications chain, ranging between multimedia source and channel coding, transcoding and transmoding content distribution protocols, quality-of-service (QoS), and Quality-of-Experience (QoE) management to postprocessing of multimedia material. In addition, IP has been widely accepted as a promising universal network-layer protocol over all wireless systems that provide a globally successful open network infrastructure for creating and providing services and applications. However, due to the time-varying characteristics of wireless channels in general, and because of the higher bit error rates imposed by the wireless medium, reliable transport of realtime and error-sensitive multimedia traffic is a challenging issue. This special issue aims to attract state-of-the-art research contributions addressing challenges in multimedia broadcasting over IP wireless networks. Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to: • Cross-layer optimizations for IP-based wireless multimedia broadcasting networks ◦ Error-resilient encoding for IP wireless multimedia broadcasting networks ◦ Source/channel multimedia encoding and optimization for broadcasting applications ◦ Error recovery techniques ◦ Congestion avoidance and flow control for realtime IP services over multicasting/ broadcasting wireless networks ◦ QoS and QoE management, resource allocation, and adaptive scheduling schemes for real-time multimedia broadcasting over IP ◦ Content-aware multimedia broadcasting • Impact of mobility and handoffs on user QoE • Multimedia broadcasting over heterogeneous wireless networks • IPTV and mobile-TV broadcasting over wireless networks ◦ Multimedia broadcasting over emerging wireless technologies (LTE, WiMAX, MANET, WiFi, and beyond) • New emerging wirelessmultimedia broadcasting applications and architectures Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www .hindawi.com/journals/ijdmb/guidelines.html.
