Call For Papers

SBGames (Brazilian Symposium on Computer Games and Digital Entertainment) is the largest and most important event for games and digital entertainment in Latin America. It is attended by scientists, artists, designers, teachers and students from colleges, universities, research centers and the game industry. SBGames is the symposium of the Special Committee of Games and Digital entertainment of SBC (Brazilian Computer Society), which is also supported by ABRAGAMES (Brazilian Association of Digital Game Developers). The symposium gathers around a thousand participants from different regions of Brazil and countries, mainly from Peru, Argentina, Uruguai, United States, England, and Portugal. SBGames has technical sessions, round tables, and exhibits in 5 Conference Tracks: Computing, Arts & Design, Culture, Education, and Industry. Fathermore, there are several Activities, such as the Games Festival, Game Art Exhibition, SBGames Kids&Teens, and Diversity in Games.

#Computing Track

C&G Journal Section
====================

In 2018, SBGames Computing Track will have an alternative section for paper submission to a special issue of the Elsevier Computers & Graphics Journal with a different deadline. This section is available for papers related to research and applications of interactive computer graphics. The papers submitted to this section are supposed to describe original and mature research results and have no page limit (although we encourage you to write papers around 12 pages). The manuscript submitted to the C&G Special Section must follow the instructions found on the Journal Section page (soon). The papers of this section will be presented at special technical meetings (called Journal Sessions). You can resubmit a rejected manuscript to the traditional Main Section.

Main Section
================

This is the traditional full-paper section of SBGames. We invite contributions on all aspects of Computing for Games and Digital Entertainment. Manuscripts must be written in ENGLISH, up to 10 pages long (manuscripts with more than 10 pages will be liable to summary rejection). All contributions must be original, unpublished work. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through JEMS system (submission page will be open soon).

The accepted papers will be published online on the SBGames 2018 web site and presented at technical meetings called Main Sessions. Also the papers are published through the IEEE eXpress Conference Publish service. The authors of the best papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their works to special issues of the following journals: SBC Journal on Interactive Systems and Entertainment Computing (Elsevier). The extended manuscripts will be submitted to a new reviewing process. SBGames conference chairs encourage authors to improve their extended versions based on feedbacks received from the conference participants and session chairs.

Posters Section
================

This is the traditional short-paper section of SBGames. The short paper should be written in ENGLISH, up to 4 pages (short papers with more than 4 pages will be liable to summary rejection). Short papers describe the authors’ ongoing research and should include at least one student as an author. The short papers are published online in the SBGames Proceedings of SBC (ISSN 2179-2259). The presentation includes an oral presentation at the Fast-Track Session (2min/paper) in Portuguese (English is optional). Also a poster (written in English) must be displayed at the Poster Exhibition area. Posters must fit in a space of 95cm (width) x 210cm (height). The authors are encouraged to be in front of their posters occasionally, to interact with the conference participants during the intervals between sessions.

Cultura
================

A trilha de Cultura abrange pesquisas que explorem os jogos como produtos culturais, valorizando características internas desses artefatos, suas significações e questões relacionadas à sua inserção e circulação na sociedade. São contempladas questões relativas à composição do mundo do jogo, aos personagens e a narrativa; às observações e problematizações da experiência de jogar e da estética do gameplay; aos aspectos de sociabilização, mediação e comunicação nos jogos; e, ainda, à inserção e influência dos games no cenário sociocultural, político e econômico.

Educação
================

Uma crescente quantidade de trabalhos vinha sendo submetida anualmente ao SBGames sobre o tema “games e educação”, o que motivou a criação de uma nova trilha. A trilha de Educação é um espaço para o estudo do uso dos jogos no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, seja na educação básica, superior ou corporativa, presencial ou a distância. Seu objetivo é reunir os trabalhos voltados especificamente ao uso educacional de jogos, gerando assim maior interação entre os pesquisadores interessados nessa área. Importante notar que não apenas jogos educativos, mas também comerciais (ou de entretenimento) têm sido utilizados no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, e, portanto, essas pesquisas podem ser submetidas à trilha. Além disso, a gamificação aplicada à educação, ou seja, a utilização de elementos de design de games no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, faz também parte do escopo da trilha.
