EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking

Special Issue on:

Recent Advances in Link and System Level Analysis, Simulation
and Experimentation for Mobile Wireless Communications

Submission deadline: 15th April 2018

SCOPE
-----------

Link and system level analysis, simulation and experimentation are central tools
to investigate highly complex systems, such as, mobile cellular networks, and to
efficiently evaluate the performance of novel technologies as well as newly
developed signal processing algorithms and techniques. These tools thereby
facilitate rapid prototyping and comparison of competing and complementing
technologies, enabling to gauge the potential of such technologies early on in
the development process. With the advent of a multitude of novel concepts and
contender technologies within 5G and beyond mobile wireless communications, e.g.,
full-dimension/massive MIMO beamforming, mixed numerology multicarrier
transmission, full-duplex systems, non-orthogonal multiple access by
superposition transmission, dynamic spectrum access, and transmission in the
millimeter wave band, analysis, modelling and simulation approaches, as well as,
experimentation methods on link and system level need to be revised and enhanced.
The objective of this special issue is to foster the latest developments and
recent advances in analytic, experimental and simulation-based link and system
level evaluation of mobile wireless communications.

TOPICS OF INTEREST
------------------------

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

- Analytic, experimental and simulation-based evaluation methodologies for 5G
and beyond technologies, particularly with respect to new 5G waveforms,
non-orthogonal multiple access schemes, multi radio access technology,
transmission in the millimeter wave band, full-duplex systems, ultra-dense
networks, massive machine-type, vehicular and device-to-device communications
(IoT-based applications), full-dimension/massive MIMO beamforming, dynamic
spectrum access, cloud/edge computing etc.

- Signal and interference modeling in high-degree heterogeneous environments.

- Consideration of spatial consistency in scenarios involving moving network
nodes and closely-spaced users.

- Simulation techniques for enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable
and low-latency communications (uRLLC), and massive machine-type
communications (mMTC).

- Quality of service (reliability, latency, throughput) modelling and
definitions for different applications.

- Invalidity of commonly used assumptions that can significantly affect the
performance of cellular networks. Methods for handling computational
complexity, e.g., exploitation of parallel computing.

- Any findings contradicting the conventional wisdom, e.g., due to the
consideration of realistic practical constraints in the modelling and
experimentation, are of particular interest.
