Future Generation Computer Systems

The International Journal of eScience Special Issue on “Advanced Technologies and Systems for collaboration”

Abstract Submission Deadline: March 15, 2017
Full Manuscript Submission Deadline: April 24, 2017

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES

The high development of Web technologies, pervasive and ubiquitous systems and networks, highly distributed computing systems, and the availability of massive amounts of data have been changing the field of computer supported collaboration, particularly with the emergence of new capabilities and forms of collaboration, as well as new challenges and issues.

The organizers of the International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS) are pleased to announce a special journal issue that will be published in Future Generation Computer Systems (https://www.journals.elsevier.com/future-generation-computer-systems/). This special issue seeks contributions from academia, industry and governmental research labs on a broad spectrum of methodologies and technologies, including ethnographically-based or field-based experiences, that relate to cooperation, coordination, communication, and collaboration at both the client and backend (cloud) levels. It invites contributions aimed at a wide range of topics such as sensors, people, clouds, robots and social networks, e-learning, e-business, e-health, emergency response, knowledge management, decision making and support, global grids, multi-agent systems, trust and cyber security, mobile clients, Web 2.0, virtual environments, visualization, ubiquitous collaboration, user interfaces and related human and socio-technical collaboration issues that will provide a big picture of present and future trends in collaboration in the “internet era.”

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

• Frameworks and Methodologies for Collaboration
• Collaboration Enabling Technologies
• Architectures & Design of Collaboration Systems
• Platforms, Artifacts and Tools for Collaboration
• Coordination and Cooperation Mechanisms
• Interfaces for Collaborative Work
• Intelligent, Autonomous and Multi Agents in Collaboration

PAPER SUBMISSIONS

Interested authors should send a one- to two-page abstract with title, authors, affiliations, emails and contact information, and a statement of their intent to submit a new manuscript or an extended version of their CTS paper to this special issue by the due date. In case of an extended version, please indicate clearly where the original work was published or presented. The abstract should be sent as an email attachment to the Special Issue Guest Editors using the email cts16si@gmail.com, by March 15, 2017. Guest Editors replies to authors will be sent by March 23, 2017. Only manuscripts of approved abstracts will be considered.

The submitted papers must be original and must not be under consideration in any other venue. This Special Issue is open to all potential contributors on the topics listed above. We additionally invite contributors of the 2016 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems to submit an extended version of their work. In this case, there must be sufficient difference between work previously reported in conference paper and the version submitted to the Journal for the two works to be seen as separate works. As a rule of thumb, the journal version must be updated by 30% or more (e.g., extended methodology, more research results, new figures and or tables, etc.) and, hence, have a new title.

Papers must be submitted via https://ees.elsevier.com/fgcs/.

Manuscripts should not exceed 20 pages in length (12 point single space, single-column, inclusive of figures and tables) and must be prepared for publication according to the journal’s instructions https://www.elsevier.com/journals/future-generation-computer-systems/0167-739X/guide-for-authors. Authors are recommended to use the Elsevier LaTeX class (http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/elsarticle) to prepare the manuscript. The number of pages of the submitted paper should be related to the content of the paper: superfluous material is to be avoided.

Submitted papers will receive thorough reviews and evaluation. Papers will be selected based on their originality, contributions, technical clarity and presentation, language, significance to the readership of the Journal, relevance to the special issue, and quality and significance of research hypothesis, assertions, and conclusions.
