Call For Papers

The topic of the 6th edition of the Meetings for the Study of the Alpine Traditions (I.S.T.A.) is «Memento mori. Rituals, image and collective imagination of death in the Alps».

The theme have the aim of studying the concept of death in the Alpine area through a
multidisciplinary approach that includes literary aspects, archival sources, archaeological evidence, artistic or ethno-anthropological research.

It is allowed to submit an abstract of a paper according to the following guidelines:
• Focus on a single place or a valley in the Alps;
• Social aspects related to death (burials, processions, mourning, confraternities...);
• Artistic aspects related to death (representations, objects, ex voto, decorations ...);
• Beliefs and traditions associated with death in the literature or in the present (case studies).

Organizations, associations, museums, universities, researchers or subject-matter experts are invited to send an abstract of the paper by the 31st May 2016.
The Organizing Committee will communicate the results of the abstracts selection by 30th June 2016.

Selected candidates must deliver the paper by the 30th November 2016.

The papers considered suitable by the Committee will be inserted in a book published in the 2017.

Allowed languages: Italian and English.
