CALL FOR PAPERS

The 2nd International Workshop on Social Computing in Digital Education
In conjunction with the 13th International Conference on Intelligent Tutoring Systems

June 6-10, 2016 in Zagreb, Croatia.

http://digedu-workshops.org

SUMMARY
This workshop aims to discuss computational models of social computing applied to Digital Education. This is a growing field of research concerned to bring interactive social intelligence to teaching and learning in classroom. We seek to foment the discussion around new forms of automatic assessment, and models to understand the impact of social behaviour, and learning context upon learning performance. A basic premise of this workshop is to think of multidisciplinary and investigative approaches involving:

• Novel Data Mining and Machine Learning for Social Intelligence in Digital Education
• Social Modelling and Simulation to investigate Social Behaviours, Emotional Intelligence, Influence Processes and other social aspects that may influence learning performance in an educational environment
• Smart environments and Interactive systems of Social Computing in Digital Education
• Analysis of social media and media intelligence in Digital Education
• Mobile Social Gaming in Digital Education
• The utilization of mobile and wearable technology in social systems in Digital Education, and others.

The workshop is interested in attracting industrial research and academic groups conducting practical research around extended models of Computational Intelligence, Computational Social Sciences, Intelligent Information Retrieval, Social Simulation, Human-Computing Interaction, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning and others applied to the field of Digital Education and Digital Teaching Platforms. We aim at establishing a workshop series and create a research community working on scientific and technological aspects of the proposed topics. We will invite contributions of members in the industry and applied research in academia.

We intend to publish the invited, accepted and extended papers with Springer, possibly as Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS). However, there might be situations, where a joint publication is more reasonable and/or other publisher may be considered.

IMPORTANT DATES
Paper submission: March 31, 2016
Notification of acceptance: April 20, 2016
Camera-ready: May 6, 2016
Workshop: June 6-10, 2016

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
Submission is done electronically at Easychair, formatted according to LNCS authors' guidelines and submitted as a PDF file at: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=socialedu2016

We seeks four types of submissions:

Full paper of 8-12 pages.
Short paper of 4 pages, such as position and early result papers.
Demo paper of 4 pages describing a demonstration. An accompanying video is highly recommended (please provide a link in the paper)

We also invite proposals for our "Crazy Ideas Session": an initiative to foment discussion on unorthodox ideas around Computational Social Sciences, Computational Intelligence, Social Simulation, Human-Computing Interaction, Ambient Intelligence, and other out-of-the-box ideas for ICT applied to Digital Education. We will kick-off the discussion by presenting some real-world challenging scenarios that require authors/attendants to propose new solutions. The proponents will be able to bid their solutions through a special track. The rules of engagement are:
• Each proponents can provide a 1-2 pages description of a clearly identifiable "out of the box" thinking. It should go towards: how can we peel off the main stream? How to think of it differently to the main stream and other research directions?
• Each accepted author has 5 min to sketch out a possible (crazy) future direction.
• Only 2-slides are allowed to explain the idea (drawings on whiteboards/screen allowed)

Submissions will be peer-reviewed by, at least, two reviewers per paper. Selection criteria will include relevance, significance, impact, originality, technical soundness, and quality of presentation. Some preference may also be given to papers which address emergent trends or important common themes, or which enhance balance of workshop topics.
