Call For Papers

******** SWEEM 2016 Call for Papers ********

1st International Workshop on the Social Web for Environmental and Ecological Monitoring, May 17, 2016.

Held in conjunction with ICWSM 2016
Cologne, Germany, May 17th - May 20th, 2016

The exponential growth of the popularity of social media has provided not only novel techniques for public communication and engagement, but has also generated unprecedented volumes of publicly-available, user-generated social media content. These trends open new opportunities for ecological and environmental applications, both in terms of alternative data sources and novel approaches for interacting with the public.

The goal of the workshop is to bring together a combination of academic and industrial participants to discuss ideas, challenges, and solutions at the intersection of Social Media and Environmental/Ecological Science.

The workshop calls for full research papers, short papers and long abstracts.

Social Media Data Mining for Environmental and Ecological Monitoring (EEM)
Social Media Analysis for EEM
Social Networks and EEM
Citizen Science and Crowdsourcing for EEM
Social Media Engagement, Motivation and Gami cation for EEM

Full Papers: should not be longer than 10 pages, references included.

Short Papers: presenting novel, thought-provoking ideas and promising (preliminary) results in realizing these ideas, should not be longer than 4 pages references included.

Format: Papers must follow ICSWSM-16 format requirements (except for the paper page limit).

Anonymity: SWEEM 2016 review is double-blind. Therefore, please anonymize your submission: do not put the author(s) names or affiliation(s) at the start of the paper, and do not include funding or other acknowledgments in papers submitted for review. References to authors' own prior relevant work should be included, but should not specify that this is the authors' own work.

Duplicate Submission: SWEEM 2016 will not accept any paper that, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal or conference.
