Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced systems utilizing information and communication technologies in transport systems. Integration of existing and new technologies to create new service to make transportation systems cleaner, safer, sustainable, and more efficient is one of the main objectives of ITS.

This special issue is intended to present and discuss new technological development to make transportation systems more intelligent. Technologies used to make transportation systems sustainable like transportation electrification and technologies used to make transportation systems safer like driver assisting systems are the main theme of the special issue.
