To be published by Springer in early 2016

Chapter Proposal Submission Deadline: 28 Feb 2015
Full Chapter Submission Deadline: 15 May 2015

1. Introduction

With the emergence of cloud computing paradigm and developments in social media and Web 2.0, huge amounts of data are being generated that is often unstructured and semi-structured. Data being an important resource for organizations needs to be managed ie appropriately categorised, logically segmented, securely stored and retrieved - that is where the concept of Big Data comes in. It also needs to be analysed to extract relevant information for decisions making purposes - that is where Data Science comes in. Because of the nature and volume of such data and complexity of analytics, the traditional approaches are no longer satisfactorily applicable. As a result, new frameworks and methodologies are being devised in relation to data management, data safety and data analytics. At the same time, new products and methodologies are being developed to cater for the needs of the industry. Some of the topics relevant to the proposed book are listed below.

2. Suggested Topics

Some topics relevant to the theme of the book include:
• Data Science and Big Data Concepts and Technologies
• Big Data modelling and management
• Data Science and predictive analytics
• Data Science relating to Internet of Things
• Algorithms for Big Data analytics
• Programming paradigms eg MapRedue
• Segmentation, storage and retrieval
• Security, privacy, safety and backup
• Scalability/elasticity in BD environments
• Scheduling/resource management
• Products, techniques and frameworks
• Social impact and social media analysis
• Inherent Limitations and R& D Solutions
• Technical, business and social challenges
• Business applications and implications
• Other major topics on related research
• Future Developments and Research Directions

3. Aim and Objectives

The aim of the proposed book is to report and discuss the state-of-the-art in terms of frameworks and methodologies relating to the topics mentioned above - to benefit other researchers and practitioners as well as to advance the existing body of knowledge in the new emerging area of Big Data and Data Science. The objectives are:
• To capture the latest research/practice on Data Science and Big Data
• To discuss recent advances and trends in this field
• To discuss the tools and techniques for Bid Data storage and analytics
• To report the use of and discuss frameworks relating to Data Science
• To identify further research directions and technologies in this area

4. Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit 1-2 page chapter proposals clearly stating the objective, scope and structure of the proposed chapters - by the deadline mentioned above. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified within two weeks (in most cases) and given guidelines for full chapter preparation. Completed chapters should ideally be approximately 10,000 words or 20 pages in length each – longer chapters will also be acceptable. Full chapters will be reviewed following a double-blind peer review process to ensure relevance, quality, originality and high information content. Proposals (and full chapters, after the acceptance of the proposal), in the form of WORD files, should be sent to: dr.z.mahmood@hotmail.co.uk
