Call For Papers

INTERSPEECH 2015 - Dresden, Germany
Call for paper: submission for INTERSPEECH 2015 Special Session on Advanced Crowdsourcing for Speech and Beyond

Abstracts submission *for funding applications* deadline: January 31, 2015
Paper submission deadline: March 20, 2015
Special Session page: http://interspeech2015.org/events/special-sessions/advanced-crowdsourcing-for-speech-and-beyond/

Motivation

INTERSPEECH is the world’s largest and most comprehensive conference on the science and technology of spoken language processing. INTERSPEECH conferences emphasize interdisciplinary approaches addressing all aspects of science and technology ranging from theory, data generation and labeling, modeling aspects, to applications. In particular, crowdsourcing has become an important and fast-growing area of interest to the INTERSPEECH community. In order to actively support research and knowledge exchange on topics utilizing or improving crowdsourcing paradigms, the organizers of this special session encourage contributions that analyze, model or evaluate crowdsourcing paradigm with respect to speech and beyond.

Scope & Topics of Interest

We invite you to submit original papers in any area related, including but not limited to:

* Crowdsourcing for speech processing, e.g. for data collection, evaluation, or labeling for speech recognition, speaker ID, or paralinguistic research
* Crowdsourcing for linguistic processing, e.g. social-signals, text-mining, speech gestures
* Works targeting on how to improve crowdsourcing applications for speech, e.g. by motivation steering, modeling for quality control, etc.
* Novel application paradigms, e.g. mobile crowdsourcing exploiting mobility and/or realistic speech capture in the field, multi-party crowdsourcing collaboration, expert knowledge inclusion
* White papers, position papers on crowdsourcing future perspectives and requirements with speech
* Ethical-, privacy or security-related issues with crowdsourcing in speech-related research

Funding

To support active research and knowledge exchange on these topics, the organizers have secured funds from three crowdsourcing providers, namely Microworkers (Dallas, USA), CrowdFlower (San Francisco, USA), and Crowdee (Berlin, Germany), the latter being a scientific spin-off from Technische Universität Berlin. Each of the platforms, with Microworkers focusing on web-based crowdsourcing, CrowdFlower connecting to a huge outreach of international crowds, and Crowdee focusing on mobile crowdsourcing, provide a budget of minimum $100 and up to $1000, to a maximum number of 10 applicants, depending on originality as judged by the co-chairs, in order to execute novel and outstanding research connected to a paper contribution to this special session.
To get funded, please provide a proposal including an abstracts describing your innovative ideas using the form at http://goo.gl/forms/6Je8GDzo8r by January 31. Best ideas will be provided with funding deposited at the platforms, with absolute amount of funding depending on the number of accepted proposals. You will be free to execute your crowdsourcing study within the next 7-8 weeks, and submit your paper contribution by the INTERSPEECH paper deadline on March 20. Works not funded as well as co-funded works are likewise warmly welcome.

Paper contributions must comply to the INTERSPEECH paper submission guidelines,
cf. http://interspeech2015.org/papers.
