Call For Papers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9th Doctoral Workshop on Mathematical and Engineering

Methods in Computer Science

MEMICS 2014

http://www.memics.cz

October 17--19, 2014, Telč, Czech Republic

Call for Papers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since 2005, the aim of MEMICS is to provide a scientific forum for doctoral and
master students interested in applications of mathematical and engineering methods
in computer science. Besides a rich technical programme (including invited talks,
regular papers, and presentations), MEMICS also offers friendly social activities
and exciting opportunities for meeting like-minded people.

Topics: MEMICS submissions are traditionally invited from all areas of computer
science. In line with the tradition of MEMICS, several different areas are, however,
given a special focus each year. In 2014, these areas are:

* Algorithms, logic, and games.
* High performance computing.
* Computer-aided analysis, verification, and testing.
* Hardware design and diagnostics.
* Computer graphics and image processing.
* Artificial intelligence and natural language processing.

Nevertheless, submissions from any other area of computer science (such as computer
security, computer networks, information systems and databases, systems biology,
quantum computing, theoretical computer science, etc.) are welcome.

Invited talks: There will be 6 invited talks by distinguished researchers from
the different areas of interest of the workshop as a part of the programme:

* Daniel Lokshtanov (Bergen)
* Michael Tautschnig (Queen Mary)
* Gianni Antichi (Cambridge)
* Jozef Ivanecký (European Media Laboratory)
* Stefan Wörz (Heidelberg)
* Derek Groen (London)

Participation: Students are invited to submit a regular paper or a presentation.
A regular paper is a previously unpublished original work, not exceeding 12 pages
in the LNCS style.

Simultaneous submissions of regular papers to other conferences with proceedings
is not allowed. A presentation, submitted in the form of a one-page abstract,
summarizes recent outstanding work that has been accepted to a leading computer
science conference or published in a recognised scientific journal. Detailed
instructions are available at the web page http://www.memics.cz/. Proceedings
containing accepted regular papers and presentation abstracts will be available at
the workshop in printed and/or electronic form. Moreover, a negotiation with Springer
Verlag is under way in order to continue the tradition of the past few years when
selected regular papers have been published in a Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS) volume dedicated to MEMICS. The authors of selected best regular papers will
receive a best paper award.

Submissions and dates:
All submissions will be handled by the Easychair conference system.

* July 24, 2014: abstracts of regular papers
* July 31, 2014: full regular papers
* August 28, 2014: one-page abstracts of presentations
* September 7, 2014: notification of acceptance
* September 15, 2014: final camera-ready versions of all accepted submissions

Venue: The workshop will be held in the historical town of Telč, which is situated
at the south-west tip of Moravia, half-way between Prague and Vienna. The historical
centre of the town has retained its unique shape over the centuries and was included
in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1992: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telč.

The MEMICS 2014 workshop is organised jointly by the Faculty of Information Technology,
Brno University of Technology and the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University.
