Call For Papers _______________________________________________________________________________ International Workshop on Assistive Technologies in Smart Environments scm.ulster.ac.uk/atse/ at the IEEE International Conference Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (BIBM 2014) scm.ulster.ac.uk/~bibm/2014/ November 2nd-5th, 2014, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK _______________________________________________________________________________ The workshop will hold a central position within the prestigious IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (BIBM-2014), held in the historic and vibrant city of Belfast, in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, on 2-5 November 2014. Assistive technology is an umbrella term for any device, system or smart space that facilitates individuals or groups to perform a task that they would otherwise be unable to do, enhances their experience, or increases the ease and safety with which the task can be performed. The goal of this inaugural workshop is to advance the understanding of the sensor and actuator technologies available in the homes of people availing of assistive technologies as well as understanding their context and well being arising from inferences of the sensor data. The workshop is relevant within the wider context of bioinformatics and biomedicine as older people in developed economies are likely to remain at home for longer and will need support from emerging technologies in order to cope at home as frailty, cognitive impairment, propensity to falls ans susceptibility to chronic diseases increases with age. Therefore, the workshop presents the opportunity for those in the bioinformatics and biomedicine research community with an active interest in assistive technologies to participate at a relevant and focused workshop hosted within an internationally recognised conference. The research topics we wish to explore include, but are not necessarily limited to: Assistive technologies Electronic assistive technologies Personalised assistive technologies Sensorised home environments Human-in-the-loop actuation technology through persuasive cybernetics Domestic robots and their role and applications in assistive environments User level programmability of assistive environments Data analysis from assistive technologies in the home Integration between home-based assistive technologies and patient health data User centered design of electronic assistive technologies Usability of assistive technologies Analysis of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) data Inferring knowledge from ADL data User interfaces for home-based assistive technologies Use of prescription systems and assistive technologies Experience from real world assistive environment deployment Ecosystem enablers for assistive environments as an elder care delivery system Important Dates -------------------------- September 10, 2014: Due date for full workshop papers submission September 30, 2014: Notification of paper acceptance to authors October 10, 2014: Camera-ready of accepted papers November 2-5, 2014: Workshop and conference Workshop Co-Chairs -------------------------- Richard Davies, University of Ulster, rj.davies@ulster.ac.uk Sumi Helal, University of Florida, helal@cise.ufl.edu Maurice Mulvenna, University of Ulster, md.mulvenna@ulster.ac.uk Programme Committee Members (not yet complete - email CV if interested in contributing to this workshop on the committee) -------------------------- Carl Chang - Iowa State University Anind Day - CMU Kyungeun Cho - Dongguk University Natalia Dìaz Rodrìguez - Åbo Akademi University Sunkyo Kwon - Hanyang University Fulvio Mastrogiovanni - University of Genova Vincent Rialle - University Hospital of Grenoble Lorenzo Chiari - University of Bologna# Ryoko Fukuda - Keio University Details ------------------------- The goal of this inaugural workshop is to advance the understanding of the sensor and actuator technologies available in the homes of people availing of assistive technologies as well as understanding their context and well being arising from inferences of the sensor data. The ATSE2014 Workshop accepts both Long(maximum 8 pages, 2-column format) and Short (maximum 4 pages, 2-column format) papers that must be in PDF format. Papers should be formatted to IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscript Formatting Guidelines. Template files can be found for LaTeX and Word at http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html All submissions must be made through the cyberchair system, by September 10th. You can submit your paper to the ATSE2014 Workshop at https://wi-lab.com/cyberchair/2014/bibm14/scripts/ws_submit.php Submissions will be evaluated and selected by the Program Committee members, based on the adherence to the theme of the workshop, originality and scientific soundness. Once the selection process is complete, the authors of the accepted abstracts will be notified by e-mail. All meeting participants must register for BIBM2014. All accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of IEEE BIBM Workshops and the IEEE digital library (IEEE Xplore). If you have any further questions regarding the submission of papers, please do not hesitate to contact somone on our committee.
