Wahiba Ben Abdessalem Karâa (High Institute of Management of Tunis, Tunisia) Nilanjan Dey (Department of Information Technology, JIS College of Engineering, India) Call for Chapters Proposals Submission Deadline: July 1, 2014 Full Chapters Due: November 1, 2014 Introduction For release in the Advances in Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering (ABBE) Book Series. Series Editor: Ahmad Taher Azar (Benha University, Egypt) ISSN: 2327-7033 The Advances in Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering (ABBE) Book Series publishes research on all areas of bioinformatics and bioengineering including the development and testing of new computational methods, the management and analysis of biological data, and the implementation of novel engineering applications in all areas of medicine and biology. Through showcasing the latest in bioinformatics and biomedical engineering research, ABBE aims to be an essential resource for healthcare and medical professionals. * * * A vast amount of image data such as medical images, satellite images, etc. is produced every second. Image mining systems that can extract significant information from image data are increasingly claimed. For example, in biomedical informatics a large amount of images are collected. In particular, medical imagery is increasingly acquired and stored digitally. Image mining in medicine can help to uncover new relationships between data, such as relation between disease and treatment and reveal new information that identify diseases, determine diagnoses, or suggest certain treatments. Image mining represents the bound of image processing technology and data mining to help specialists in understanding and analyzing complex images. This field takes advantages of computer evolution and the progress of diverse disciplines such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, etc. This book addresses the major techniques of Image mining. It deals with methods and approaches that involve clustering, classification, pattern recognition, and partitioning of data in order to learn the knowledge for computer-assisted image analysis. Objective Developments in image acquirement and storage technologies have led to very great and detailed image databases. Image mining can reveal useful information to specialists and can extract implicit knowledge and relationships not explicitly expressed in the images. This book addresses the major techniques of data biomedical mining. It deals, principally, with methods and approaches that involve Medical image and signal analysis, image retrieval, segmentation of medical images, and biomedical information extraction. Target Audience Researchers, decision makers, academicians, advanced-level students, technology developers. Recommended Topics Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Medical image and signal analysis Modeling, simulation and visualization Computer-aided detection (CAD) and diagnosis Machine learning in medical image analysis Biomedical information retrieval Volumetric image analysis Image indexing Image clustering Content based image retrieval and data mining Medical and biological imaging Deformable object tracking and registration Segmentation of medical images Molecular and cellular image analysis Brain-computer interfaces Computational anatomy and digital human Data mining of biological databases Classification Biomedical information extraction Relation extraction in biological databases Pattern recognition Submission Procedure Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before July 1, 2014, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by August 1, 2014 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by November 1, 2014. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project. All proposals should be submitted through the link at the bottom of this page. Publisher This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the "Information Science Reference" (formerly Idea Group Reference), "Medical Information Science Reference," "Business Science Reference," and "Engineering Science Reference" imprints.
