Call For Papers | |||||||||
Greetings from Detcon1!
As you may know, Detcon1, the 2014 North American Science Fiction Convention, will take place in Detroit, Michigan from Thursday, July 17 to Sunday, July 20, 2014. A North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC) is held when the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) is held outside North America. Our guests of Honor are Stephen Barnes, John Picacio, Bernadette Bosky, Arthur D. Hlavaty, Kevin J. Maroney, Helen Greiner, Bill Sutton, and Brenda Sutton. We would be delighted if you would consider joining us and taking part in our programming. If you would be interested in participating in programming, please complete our Preliminary Program Participant Questionnaire at http://detcon1.org/volunteer-form/. However, we will also send out a log-in and password and instructions for our more schedule-focused programming questionnaire if you accept our invitation to participate on programming. As is typical for NASFiCs and Worldcons, we are working very hard to keep costs down for everyone. All Program Participants will need to buy a membership in advance. However, our budget includes a line item for planned reimbursements. If you appear on at least four program items and the convention ends in the black, we will refund your membership fee. If you are planning to attend Detcon1 and have not yet bought a membership, please buy one at: http://detcon1.org/involved/registration/ PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee that all that all participants will appear on four items. If you have suggestions for programming topics or items, please share them with us through our Brainstorming form at: http://detcon1.org/programming/programming-suggestion/. We are always looking for more ideas! If you would like to contact programming directly, please send email to programming@detcon1.org Detcon1, including Exhibits and Program, will be held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, a world-class 73-floor tower hotel located in the GM World Center in downtown Detroit. The Renaissance Center Marriott, which will house the entire NASFiC, has beautiful views over the Detroit River and easy access to the recently renovated Riverwalk. There are over two dozen restaurants in the RenCen complex, and hundreds more are a moderate walk or a cheap ride away via DetroitÃs downtown elevated light rail system, the People Mover, with a station onsite. Thank you and we hope to see you in Detroit!
