Call For Papers

High performance of modern Graphics Processing Units may be utilized not only for graphics related application but also for general computing. This computing power has been utilized in new variants of many algorithms from almost every computer science domain. Unfortunately, while other application domains strongly benefit from utilizing the GPUs, databases related applications seem not to get enough attention. The main goal of GPUs in Databases workshop is to fill this gap. This event is devoted to sharing the knowledge related to applying GPUs in Database environments and to discuss possible future development of this application domain.

List of topics of the GID workshop includes (but is not limited to):

Data compression on GPUs
lossless/lossy compression and decompression
real time compression and decompression of multimedia
GPUs in databases and data warehouses
join processing
data indexing
data aggregation
bulk query processing
analytical query processing
Data mining using GPUs
frequent itemsets and association rules
frequent subgraphs
sequential patterns
social networks mining
Stream processing
query processing in streaming databases
stream compression/decompression
Applications of GPUs in bioinformatics
Data oriented GPU primitives
parallel insertion anddata structure modification

A volume with workshop papers will be published by Springer in the Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing series (, for distribution among workshop participants during the workshop. Camera-ready papers are to be prepared in LaTeX (detailed instructions will be provided).

The authors of the best workshop papers will be invited to prepare extended versions of their papers after the workshop. Following an additional round of reviews, the extended papers will appear in a special issue of an international journal.

Papers will be refereed and accepted on the basis of their scientific merit and relevance to the workshop. Each paper will be reviewed by at least two Program Committee members. Duplicate submissions are not allowed, i.e. submitted papers must not overlap substantially with any other papers of the same author(s) submitted elsewhere (i.e. journal, conference, workshop etc.).

May 1st 2014 - Submissions of papers
June 1st 2014 - Notification of acceptance
June 13th 2014 - Camera ready papers
Sept. 7th 2014 - GID 2014 Workshop
