GameSec 2013 Call for Participation and Travel Grant Application

GameSec 2013, the fourth Conference on Decision and Game Theory for Security will take place in Fort Worth, TX, USA on November 11-12, 2013. http://www.gamesec-conf.org/index.php

The GameSec conference aims to bring together researchers who aim to establish a theoretical foundation for making resource allocation decisions that balance available capabilities and perceived security risks in a principled manner. The conference focuses on analytical models based on game, information, communication, optimization, decision, and control theories that are applied to diverse security topics. The full Technical Program will come out shortly.

Two outstanding keynote addresses:
“Living securely in an insecure world” by: Andrew Odlyzko
“The Evolution of Cyber Defense Research” by: Cliff Wang

GameSec 2013 will provide funds to support participation of graduate students. The travel award program will mainly target PhD students that have limited sources of funds for travel to conferences. However, qualified MS or BS students with strong research potential will also be considered for travel support. The average support provided to each student will be $500, or the actual documented cost of economy air/train fare and accommodation, whichever is less. This amount is intended to help cover students travel (economy air/train fare), conference registration fee, and accommodation. Each student will be expected to cover additional expenses over $500 from funds provided by their adviser(s) or academic institutions.

Selection Criteria and Process:
- The funding will only be used for student travel-related expenses such as airfare, hotel, train, taxi and shuttle.
- The recipients of the travel awards must be US-based students only, that is, Ph.D. (or M.S.) students attending universities in the US. Exceptional BS students with strong research potential will also be considered.
- Special consideration will be given to students from underrepresented groups of students, e.g., minorities and/or women, coming from diverse institutions.
- Some priority may be given to student authors with accepted papers in GameSec 2013 who may not otherwise be able to attend due to budgetary constraints.
- All travel awardees will be required to register for the conference and attend all events.

Applications:
GameSec travel award application will consist of the student's vita, a letter from the student, and a letter from the student's adviser. The application shall be emailed to Prof. Donggang Liu (dliu@uta.edu). The letter from the student will be required to include:
- A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date;
- A description of areas reflected in the GameSec program that would impact the student's research;
- A description why the conference attendance is important to the student and how he/she wishes to contribute to the conference.

In addition, the student's adviser will be expected to send a letter of recommendation to the committee. The letter should include the following items:
- Confirmation that the student is a student in good standing;
- Suitability of the GameSec program material to the student's research area;
- How this particular student would benefit from attendance at the conference;
- The strengths and potential contributions of the student; and
- The availability of funds from other sources to cover student registration fee.

Decision Procedure:
The deadline for submitting the application of travel award is set to September 15th, 2013. Decisions will be made by September 31st. Recipients will be required to accept the award by October 15th, 2013. In case that a recipient declines the award, other applicants will be considered.
