Call For Papers

CONFERENCE THEME: "Municipal Solid Waste: management models and partecipation schemes".

Traditionally, the management of municipal solid waste belonged to the responsibility of local government. Over time, for several different reasons (e.g. political, economic and regulatory), other actors were involved in one or more aspects of the waste management cycle. In some cases, it has been observed a transition from a public to a private management requiring governments to establish a strong regulatory framework to ensure effective and efficient services. Generally, in providing local public services, such as urban waste management, it may happen that in the same type of activity are involved more different actors, such as: the formal and informal sector in recovery activities, the public sector and the private sector in the collection and transportation of municipal solid waste, etc.
The Second International Conference on solid waste management will analyze different approaches of solid waste management, for example, the so-called in-house approach, or forms of public-private partnership (PPP). Inernational experiences will be presented by the scientific community and by several public and private stakeholders.
This theme allows to focus on the relationships that can be created between the different actors involved in waste management activity and the most effective economic and legal tools for their regulation.
The topic preseneted allows to focus also on different types and different levels of participation that must be guaranteed as a part of the waste management cycle.
During the first day, there will be several lectures presenting an overview of international experiences and as well the on-going dynamics in some of the major Italian cities. During this first day, the debate will be based on the contribution of academia, industry and government.
During the second day, papers selected on the basis of the call for papers process will be presented and discussed.
