#### Description
Since 1999, the Linux Symposium has strived to provide a comfortable collaboration environment for technical people working on all aspects of the Linux Project. We have done our best to provide a vendor-neutral academic-style conference where developers, administrators, and users all feel at ease and are able to work together towards a common goal.

As in 2012, a formal paper is highly recommended -- but optional -- for presenters. We recognize how busy everybody is and that the additional time requirements needed to prepare a paper may prevent presenters from sending proposals.

Presenters who do elect to submit a formal paper will receive an additional free-attendance pass to allocate to any co-authors or co-workers who also wish to attend the event.

Our past keynote speakers have included many core members of the Linux development community including; Alan Cox, David S. Miller, Miguel de Icaza, Ted Ts'o, Stephen Tweedie, Paul "Rusty" Russell, Andrew Morton, David Jones, Greg Kroah- Hartman, James Bottomley, Werner Almesberger, Mark Shuttleworth, Keith Bergelt, Dirk Hohndel, Tim Riker, and Jon "Maddog" Hall.

The thing to think about with Bitcoin tech: it's not just Bitcoin-the-currency, but really it is a catalyst for new cryptographically secure, openly audited systems. Imagine if the government published hash-secured, digitally signed accounting ledgers that the entire country could audit.

Lots of related, non-currency projects are being spurred by Bitcoin's emergence, like BitMessage.
