SIGIR 2012 Workshop on Time-aware Information Access

Portland, US, 16 August 2012
(http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/people/milads/taia2012.aspx)

* Workshop background and goals
Web content increasingly re?ects the current state of the physical and social world, manifested both in traditional news media sources along with user-generated publishing sites such as Twitter, Foursquare, and Facebook. At the same time, web searching increasingly re?ects problems grounded in the real world.
As a result of this blending of the web with the real world, we observe that the web, both in its composition and use, has incorporated many of the dynamics of the real world. Many of the problems associated with searching dynamic collections are not well understood, such as de?ning time-sensitive relevance, understanding user query behavior over time and understanding why certain web content changes.
We aim to bring together practitioners and researchers to discuss their recent breakthroughs and the challenges with addressing time-aware search, both from the algorithmic and the architectural perspectives.

* Format of the Workshop
The workshop will comprise of invited talks, oral and poster presentations and open-forum discussions.

* Types of submissions
The submissions will be peer reviewed and must be formatted according to the ACM SIG proceedings template with a maximum length of 4 pages.
We welcome both position papers and ongoing research.
The paper should be submitted online on: http://tsearch2012.confmaster.net/ by Monday, 4 June 2012 (23:59 UTC-11; Samoa time zone).
Acceptance notifications will be on Monday, 9 July 2012.

* We will welcome submissions related to all aspects of time-sensitive information access including but not limited to the following topics:
Classifying queries with temporal intent
Effective ranking for time-sensitive queries
Optimizing for both freshness and relevance
Evaluating the results for time-sensitive queries
Aggregated search answers for real-time searches
