Call For Papers

Special Session on " Secure Biometric Systems 2012 "

will be held in conjunction with
IEEE National Conference on Computing & Communications Systems (NCCCS 2012),

20 November, 2012, Durgapur

In this information age, security is one of the main concerns for individuals as well as for vulnerable things which would be susceptible to attack, and security threats often come from malicious users, criminals, and cross-border terrorists. Therefore, it is necessary to protect an individual's identity and all valuable things from these malicious users. As a result, biometric technology has emerged as a secure means of authentication and identification of individuals, which uses physiological and behavioral characteristics for measuring the individuality as an authentication. There exist several biometric characteristics such as fingerprint, face, iris, palm print, hand geometry, signature, ear, retina, DNA, gait, etc., to authenticate a person successfully. Biometrics systems are divided into two groups: unibiometrics systems and multibiometrics systems. Unibiometric identifiers use single source of biometric evidence and multibiometric system consolidates evidences obtained from multiple biometric sources. Both the relevant and irrelevant information of two or more traits are fused together. B iometrics system has several governmental and commercial applications such as electronic data security, Internet access, ATM, credit card, physical access control, cellular phone, medical records management, national ID card, voter ID card, welfare-disbursement, border security control, passport control, airport control, corpse identification, criminal investigation, parenthood determination, missing children, etc.

The special session will serve as a platform to cover the advanced topics and approaches of biometric systems and technologies.
