***************************** CALL FOR PAPERS *****************************

1st ASPLOS Doctoral Workshop

In conjunction with ASPLOS 2012
London, UK, March 4th, 2012

The 1st ASPLOS Doctoral Workshop will provide a forum for PhD
students at all stages in their research to present their work and
receive constructive feedback from experts in their field. Technical
presentations will be augmented with general advice and discussions about
getting a PhD, doing research, and post-doctoral careers. We invite
applications from PhD students at any stage of their doctoral studies
within systems and architecture research.

The main goal of the ASPLOS Doctoral Workshop is to foster excellence in
systems and architecture research by giving PhD students feedback and advice
that is particularly relevant to their doctoral studies and career development.
Each participant will be paired up with a senior researcher who will act as
as a mentor, providing encouragement and guidance on future plans.

We anticipate most participants to be current PhD students who have
selected a clear research topic. Research topics of interest include
"systems" work in the broadest sense, including work on formal foundations,
as well as the design, implementation and evaluation of real systems.

Applicants are asked to place themselves into one of two groups:

* Group A for Planners, who are planning their research and are at an early
stage in their PhD.

* Group B for Finishers, who are close to finishing their thesis and have
a clear direction to their research.

Both groups should submit a 2 page summary of their research. Planners
should submit a research proposal that clearly identifies a problem, briefly
presents related work, and discusses possible solutions. Finishers should
submit a summary of their research to-date, a thesis outline and future career
plans, post-PhD. In addition, Finishers can submit a conference, journal or
technical paper as supplementary material. Reviewers will give constructive
feedback on both groups' research and future plans.

Submission should be a 2 page, PDF file in 2 column, single-spaced, 10pt font.
See for further details of the
workshop format and submission instructions.

Submission: January 5th, 2012
Notification: January 19th, 2012
Workshop: March 4th, 2012

Note: Due to tight deadlines, we cannot extend the submission date.
