Call For Papers

The XI International Conference on Localised Agri-Food Systems (SIAL) invites scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to submit contributions exploring the transformations of local and territorial food systems in the context of global social, ecological, and economic challenges.

Localised Agri-Food Systems (SIAL) have long been recognised as key spaces where food production, culture, territory, and governance intersect. Today, in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, food insecurity, and growing socio-economic inequalities, these systems are increasingly viewed as strategic arenas for imagining and implementing more sustainable and just food futures.

The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the role of territorial food systems in sustainability transitions, bringing together perspectives from geography, economics, sociology, agronomy, public policy, and related fields.

We welcome theoretical, empirical, and practice-based contributions addressing topics such as:

Localised agri-food systems and territorial development

Governance and public policies for food system transformation

Agroecology and sustainable food production

Food sovereignty and food justice

Short food supply chains and alternative food networks

Urban–rural relations in food systems

Territorial innovation and social economy initiatives

Cultural heritage, food identities, and local knowledge

Climate change, resilience, and food system adaptation

Methodologies for analysing and mapping local food systems

Submissions may include conceptual papers, empirical research, comparative studies, and case-based reflections from diverse geographical contexts.

The conference aims to create a space for critical reflection and exchange between academia, civil society, and institutions engaged in transforming food systems toward greater sustainability, equity, and territorial resilience.
