CALL FOR PAPERS Millitary Studies: Journal for Strategy, Technology and Defense Sciences Special Issue: The Caribbean Basin and the Venezuelan Factor: Regional Security Dynamics About This Special Issue Military Studies: Journal for Strategy, Technology and Defense Sciences invites original scholarly contributions for a thematic issue dedicated to examining the evolving security landscape of the Caribbean Basin, with particular emphasis on Venezuela as a central variable in regional geopolitical, military, and strategic developments. The Caribbean Basin has emerged as a zone of renewed great power competition, shifting alliance patterns, and complex transnational security challenges. Venezuela's prolonged political and economic crisis, the reconfiguration of its armed forces, and the deepening involvement of extra-regional actors have produced significant ripple effects across the hemisphere. This special issue seeks to advance rigorous, empirically grounded, and theoretically informed scholarship on these dynamics. We welcome contributions from diverse disciplinary perspectives, including but not limited to security studies, international relations, strategic studies, defense economics, military sociology, and regional studies. Thematic Scope Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts addressing, but not limited to, the following topics: Civil-Military Relations and Institutional Transformation: The evolving role of the Venezuelan armed forces (FANB) in domestic governance, Military participation in economic sectors and public administration, Comparative perspectives on civil-military relations in Latin America. Defense Policy and Military Doctrine: Venezuelan defense posture: doctrine, capabilities, and modernization, Arms procurement patterns and defense industry developments, The role of military actors in internal security operations. Geopolitics and External Actors: Russian, Chinese, and Iranian military engagement in Venezuela, U.S. strategic posture toward Venezuela and the Caribbean Basin, The impact of international sanctions on defense and security policy. Regional Security Dynamics: Border security and interstate tensions (Colombia, Brazil, Guyana), The securitization of Venezuelan migration flows, Caribbean small states and the Venezuelan factor. Transnational Threats and Non-State Actors: Armed non-state actors, irregular forces, and hybrid security arrangements Organized crime, illicit economies, and their intersections with state structures Maritime security and trafficking routes in the Caribbean Scenarios and Forecasting: Future trajectories of the Venezuelan armed forces, Regional implications of potential political transitions, Conflict prevention and stabilization frameworks.
