Wireless Sensor Networks: Current Status and Future Trends Edited by, Shafiullah Khan, Al-Sakib Khan Pathan, and Nabil A. Alrajeh To be published by: Auerbach Publications, CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, USA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a network consisting of a large number of sensor devices with processing and wireless transmission capability. WSN is considered as a class of Ad hoc networks with the salient feature that it could have a centralized entity for the entire network called base station or sink. The sensors in the network sense different types of occurrences (e.g., temperature, magnetism, sound, light) from the surrounding environments and send the data to the base station. However, acquiring data from the deployment area of sensors is not always easy and multiple issues are to be considered in dealing with a WSN. The major issue is the limited resources of the tiny sensor devices which are run with one-time batteries. Even if rechargeable batteries are used, it is not always easy to replace them once the sensors are deployed over a geographical area. Most of the times, the application requires the network to be unattended, that means it is free from human intervention. Other problems might come from external environment; heat, rain, wind condition, etc. Routing, data aggregation, ensuring Quality of Service (QoS), security, all these are various facets of WSN research issues. Though many of the issues have been solved from various points of views and for various types of application scenarios, many other still remain as open research issues. This book will include the basic information of wireless sensor networks, current trends in its research and development, and future expectations in the relevant areas. The book could be a valuable reference book for researchers, industry professionals, academics. It could be used as a text book for graduate students as almost all the concerned areas will be covered. Submission Details Each manuscript must be written in a tutorial manner so that it can be easily accessible for the readers outside the specialty of the area. Expected manuscript length is between 9,500 to 12,500 words. Manuscripts submitted for the book must be original, must not be previously published or currently under review anywhere. Target Audience The target audience of this book will be composed of students, academics, professionals, and researchers working in the fields of wireless sensor networks. Moreover, the book is expected to include some chapters written in tutorial style so that the general readers can be able to easily grasp some of the ideas in this area.
