Climate Fiction: Ecological Dimensions

Concept Note:

In recent years, climate change has emerged as not only a scientific and environmental issue but also a deep cultural and literary concern. Climate Fiction (Cli-Fi) has become a critical medium for exploring the complexities of the Anthropocene, the epoch in which human activities have drastically impacted the ecosystems of our planet. Through imaginative narratives, Climate Fiction engages with the environmental, social, and political dimensions of climate change, prompting reflections on ecological degradation, survival, ethical responsibilities, and future planetary scenarios. This edited volume, Climate Fiction: Ecological Dimensions, seeks to compile scholarly research that interrogates the intersections of literature, film, ecology, and climate crisis. It aims to explore how fiction mediates the Anthropocene, with a focus on narrative strategies, sociopolitical implications, and the potential for fostering environmental activism. In addition, the volume will examine the historical legacies of colonialism, which have exacerbated ecological degradation, particularly in marginalised communities of the Global South. Through postcolonial and intersectional lenses, Climate Fiction critiques entrenched power dynamics and speculative futures, offering perspectives on race, class, and gender in the face of ecological crises. These narratives envision hybrid ecosystems and cultures that emerge from environmental upheaval and resistance. This volume will engage with the current developments in this field and will try to diversify various other issues. Articles should cover the following sub-themes and may stretch beyond to justify the theme and purpose of this book:

Scholarly and unpublished research articles are requested from scholars and academicians for publication in this edited volume. This volume will be published with an ISBN from Akhand Publishing House, a renowned national publishing house based in New Delhi. Contributors are requested to follow the submission guidelines mentioned below. The proposed title of the volume will be Climate Fiction: Ecological Dimensions.

Submission of Full Paper: 30 November 2024.
Notification of Acceptance: On or before 15 December 2024.

We encourage submissions from researchers and scholars. Papers should be between 3,000-3,500 words, please follow MLA 9th Ed. guidelines, and must include works cited page with a brief bio-note of the author. Submissions should be made via email to bodypoliticsmasculinity@gmail.com.

Paper size: A4, Font & size: Times New Roman 12, Spacing: 1.5 lines, Margin of 1 inch on all four sides.
Text of the paper: Justified. Images (if any) should in jpg format with proper copyright.
Title of the paper: bold, Sentence case (Capitalize each word), centered. Font & size: Times New Roman 14 bold.
Do not use Foot Notes, use End Note.
An abstract of not more than 250 words with 3-5 keywords must also be submitted along with a brief bio-note of the author.
Selection Procedure: All submissions will be reviewed by the editors. Final selection will be made only if the papers are approved for publication by the editors. The details of the selection of your paper will be conveyed by email.
Plagiarism Alert: Contributors are advised to adhere academic ethics with respect to acknowledgment of original ideas from others. All submissions should be innovative and must be supplemented by a declaration that it is an original work and has not been published anywhere else once after the intimation of the selection. Plagiarism/similarity should be less than 10 percent.

Bio-Note: Dr. Ananya Mukherjee has completed her doctoral research from the Department of English, University of Raiganj and has been awarded her PhD degree. She is presently teaching in the Department of English, Sripat Singh College, Jiaganj, Murshidabad. Her areas of research interest include War Literature, Partition Literature, Border Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies and Post-Colonial Literature. She has presented papers in several National and International seminars and conferences to date. She has written numerous articles and book chapters. She has authored a postgraduate module on American literature under UGC ePathsala which is a part of the MoE (Ministry of Education) programme by the Government of India. She is also the co-editor of the book Body Politics: Rethinking Gender and Masculinity which has been catalogued in the Main Library of the University of Edinburgh.

Bio Note: Dr. Tanmoy Baghira currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Subhas Chandra Bose Centenary College in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Previously, he held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Gurudas College, Kolkata, for over five years. He is also working as a Visiting Faculty in the Department of English, Murshidabad University. Dr. Baghira is awarded with his PhD degree in Masculinity Studies from the Department of English, University of Kalyani. Additionally, he is the co-editor of the book Body Politics: Rethinking Gender and Masculinity which has been catalogued in the Main Library of the University of Edinburgh. His areas of specialization and research interests include Masculinity Studies, Cultural Studies, Film Studies, Adaptation Studies and Posthumanism.
