IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Quality of Experience: Modeling, Evaluation, and Directions

Held in conjunction with International Symposium on Multimedia in Dana Point, CA, Dec.5-7, 2011

Due to rapid advance of various multimedia applications and services, such as video telephony, mobile video broadcasting, and Internet Protocol television (IPTV), there is an increasing demand for accurately and effectively evaluating and improving Quality of Experience (QoE) of multimedia services. Accurate assessment of the perceived quality on multimedia content is crucial to audio/video codec development, network protocol planning, in-network quality monitoring, quality assurance of end users, etc. With an evolving demand from user aspect, traditional Quality of Service (QoS) metric is not accurate enough to represent actual requests for today’s multimedia applications. Instead, user experience such as preference, expectation, and context has becoming a critical issue in evaluating and improving the quality of multimedia content. The tasks are highly challenging because they require the inter-discipline knowledge of audio/video compression, multimedia communication, human perception systems, psychology, even sociology. The goal of this workshop is to bring a forum for world leading scientists and researchers in the related fields to exchange and present their expertise and perspectives of this topic and advance its technologies and applications.

Prospective participants are invited to contribute to one or more of the following topics:

* Human auditory/visual perception system modeling for QoE management
* Multimedia QoE definition and requirement methods and tools
* Subjective multimedia quality assessment methodologies
* Objective multimedia quality metrics
* Quality assessment for augmented realities, e.g. 3D modality, haptic interaction
* Standardization activities in multimedia quality assessment
* QoE improvement methods in audio/video codec design, communications, and post-processing
* Emerging applications of multimedia QoE quality assessment
* Future directions of multimedia QoE framework

This event is technically endorsed by the IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on Multimedia Communications QoE for Multimedia Communications Interest Group (QoEIG) and by the COST Action IC 1003 Qualinet (http://www.qualinet.eu). Papers accepted for the workshop will be published together with the main symposium proceedings by IEEE CS Press and will be available at IEEE Xplore.

Paper Submission:

Prospective authors are invited to submit their papers in IEEEE double-column format with no more than six (6) pages. Submission templates for the required paper format are available at http://ism.eecs.uci.edu/. Submitted papers will be subject to peer-review by MQoE’11 technical program committee.
