Dear Colleagues,
Monitoring the atmosphere is crucial to understanding the sources of climate change and the impact that humans have on the Earth’s ecosystems. A precise and reliable estimation of emission sources from different sections is urgently required for a better understanding of greenhouse gas effects. Global observations from satellite instruments can extend the information available from in situ observations at sparse surface networks and aircraft campaigns to improve our knowledge of the processes controlling the emission and distribution of greenhouse gases and air pollutants, and to monitor their variability on different scales. This Special Issue focuses on the methodology and application of remote sensing methods to estimate air pollutants and carbon emissions from human activity, large-scale power plants, the urban industry, long-range transport, as well as links to climate change with respect to air pollution. Original papers relating to the above topics, general methodologies, numerical and experimental investigations, and case studies addressing sustainable management and urban air quality are welcome. We look forward to your contributions. Dr. Dmitry Belikov Guest Editor |
